Yeah we have them wild in the Northern part of the countryAsian water buffalo?
Neither mate, its a 50 cal but in a fast 1:24 twist so no good for balls. I used sabotted coppers in this. I do love the gun but prefer flintlock and round balls so don't fire it much anymoreUsed a round ball or REAL? Calibre?
Mine is a .45 that shoots 138 grain RBs well at 70 yards.
I forgot to ask , who built the Hawken ?Went up north a couple of years ago with the old man and a friend. We managed to get a couple of bulls with my hawken muzzleloader. Did a good enough job I'd say!

Unimportant, just needed to run faster than the old manBig lump, how long to reload if it decides to run at you?
Too long then lol... Like the cape buff bow hunters they have a PH with a 500 express wait next to them.Unimportant, just needed to run faster than the old man![]()
About 35m, the first shot hit him hard and he dropped his head but didn't move. Quickly reloaded and hit him again, he took off and got maybe 100m. It was a double lung and the heart shot.Awesome stuff. How close did you get? I've always wondered how my trade gun would do with a .610" ball.
At 35m I think I could do ok. A paper cartridge for speed loading would be quick from a smoothbore.About 35m, the first shot hit him hard and he dropped his head but didn't move. Quickly reloaded and hit him again, he took off and got maybe 100m. It was a double lung and the heart shot.
If you had a smoothbore good to 50m you'd do ok. Buffalo bulls for the most part aren't scared of people, they know they're bigger than you! Get the wind right you can move in quite close too.At 35m I think I could do ok. A paper cartridge for speed loading would be quick from a smoothbore.
How about lifting the barrel out of the fusil? If you had a smoothbore good to 50m you'd do ok. Buffalo bulls for the most part aren't scared of people, they know they're bigger than you! Get the wind right you can move in quite close too.
My old man is going back again this year with one of my brothers, I'd go again myself if I wasn't trying to plan a UK hunting trip for roe deer. If I went I'd take my smooth 72 flintlock.
I'd take my fusil but can't find a hard case long enough fir a gun with a 41" barrel! A 62 would do well I'd think.
I know a lot of folks do but I have never taken the pins out of my long guns, I'd hate to enlarge the hole and have them loose. Also hate to see the rust under there! How about lifting the barrel out of the fusil?
For transport.![]()
Lol. They usually are not tight anyway and simple veneer shims load the wood enough should they come loose.I know a lot of folks do but I have never taken the pins out of my long guns, I'd hate to enlarge the hole and have them loose. Also hate to see the rust under there!
I always thought that you just found them, frozen to Hatchet Jack (if you have never watched Jeremiah Johnson you won't have a clue what I'm on about):They are a bit pricey , but they are nice .
