6.5 creed for Sika? (🪖💣)

I'm stuck between .308 and 6.5 creed, Im never going to tackle anything beyond 250-300 yards anyway... Target shooting is more of a pastime it's not competitive and to get the 2 boys out of the house and let them plug away with the .22lr lol
With factory ammunition, especially non lead, I think I would err toward .308.

But I’m not convinced you’d actually notice a difference if handed either one at random.

The .308 might be a better choice for you, theres a lot of cheapish service ammo about, something that will never be true of the Creedmoor.
Theres feck all in it really, unless you’re a sensitive type who will cringe admitting that their new rifle is chambered for the most boring cartridge in existence (.308).
Boring, but it works.

Sika - you really need a 338 Lapua as a min. 50 BMG not too small. :)
You don’t, but you do need to anchor them, here’s 2 examples.

This one was hit in the left shoulder quartering on, a little low, bottom of the heart scored and bullet exited behind the right shoulder. It ran 150M into that horrible impenetrable shite behind it. There was no blood after the first 40M and we found it largely by accident after some anxious minutes crawling around in the impenetrable shite, and I do mean crawling

These 2 were standing right beside yet more impenetrable shite, I dragged them out a bit to clean them, both necked, both dead in their tracks, no crawling and no dog necessary.
I know which result I prefer.

Buy or load VMAX and you'll be happy.

Most Sika are not big deer, but people confuse themselves with heavy bullets and 'knock down power'.

I want my deer bullets to act like grenades the moment they enter the chest cavity.

Can't run if the internal organs are a fine paste/jelly.

We shoot ours high in the shoulder…. Drops them on the spot, whilst we only shoot Sika for a few days each year since 2021…. We’ve had five for no runners…. Not a massive selection of beasts but we don’t have a stalker with a dog - only a thermal….

Yes the bullet can make a mess of some of the meat, but better that than losing both haunches and loins and everything else into a thicket….. total cumulative distance run with a 140gr SST out of the swede - about two yards over the five shot…

I’m more of a 6.5x55 fan so I recommend highly that wonderful calibre which is plenty for all deer species in UK

Have you shot a 6.5 creed? I'm only asking as I'm narrowing down many aspects of 3 calibres in general .308, 6.5 x 55, 6.5 creed.. preferably to men that have shot and took both sika and reds. I know all 3 are well capable but I plan on spending anywhere around the £1500+ mark, i personally see the 6.5x55 as the "has been" and the .308 is like the old man sat at the bar on his own. 🤣 Plus I have to add that my son's will eventually end up shooting this rifle and both are under 10 ATM recoil will eventually come into play as I have to think ahead to the future. Cheers for all the replys aswel by the way they are helpful men 👌🏻

i shoot a 6.5x55 and a mate of one shoots the creed. I also shoot the .30-06, its everything the .308 wants to be!

I would say the .308 is more the bar maid.

Everyone’s had a go.
No nonsense, gets the job done.

Sika tough, Sika hard..... blah blah blah

Shot the majority of my many Sika, stags included, during the rut included, with 100g partitions from a .243, no issues at all. Now use both a 6.5 Cr and a .270 after taking quite a few with 150g BT's from a .30-06. Use Accubond 130g from both the 6.5 and .270 and have seen colleagues and clients shoot them with most common calibres, 6.5Cr x 55, .270, .308, 7mm, .30-06

Nothing has been an issue as long as shot placement was reasonable and most importantly, a "proper" bullet was used. Calibre has little to do with it, bullet type and placement are king. No good going up on calibre to make up for lack of shooting ability or shooting at distances that conditions dictate we should not.

I have seen and really liked a Bergara extreme hunter in 6.5 creed with a 18" barrel but was a bit sceptical of the short barrels, excellent to know this now tho as it is mostly woodland I shoot, cheers for the reply man 👌🏻
Don't worry about an 18" barrel on 6.5CM; mine has that length barrel, will knock anything over and is very accurate.

I shoot more Sika than most and recently I have turned more to my 6.5 Creedmoor to get the job done here is my reasons why.

1. Very low recoil, target acquisition and follow up time is far quicker.
2. Bullet size, 140 and 142gr bullets .
3. 1:8 twist rate makes the rifle cal more accurate and dependable.
4. High bc bullets allow for more long range oppertunities
5. Accurate as hell and not fussy on ammo.

Why would I not have a swede?

The swede is fussy on ammo, outdated in many ways has common accuracy issues and well you might as well use a .270 as that is a far better calibration than the Swede

That’s just my opinion
