Stalking Knives

There’s nothing wrong with using a folding knife - they just aren’t as easy to clean as a fixed blade one.

If the guy does in fact clean it each time then there’s no issue. I’m sure plenty of people don’t clean their fixed blades properly.

I’ve always used Moras but recently changed to victorionox after Bowland Blades made me a sheath for one and I actually prefer it to the Mora, couldn’t tell you why but think it’s something to do with a thinner blade.

Reckon I now have more knives than the mrs has shoes (well maybe not quite)
I rate them all got some Boker puma white hunter some custom ones from D Most. All fantastic but as of late I have been using a Victoria knox hunter. As a folder can’t beat it in my own opinion. Holds a cracking edge the saw carves up a fallow rib cage with ease and the gut hook serrated blade is great for skinning.
Cracking little tool.
Open your wine after washing the larder down too 👍View attachment 299009

This looks the absolute mustard - I’ve ordered one as I don’t have a good folder. Thanks for the recommendation, should work a treat on the deer! 😁👍🏻

Mora carried in the waggon cheap easy to sharpen if I can get waggon up to the Fallow, carry an EKA Swede in orange in pocket for any field gralloch or opening up, everyone to their own

Fortunately I also bought an autoclave and a job lot of super sterilisation fluid to keep everyone happy! 😁😂😂
Why so much sterilisation solution? Like most of the people on here, a thimble full would last most of you lot years. In fact it will probably be out of date before you got any blood on your knives!

SUPER sterilisation solution.

Just want to make sure like 😁😂

Any decent solution used in the proper strength will kill 99% of germs. They won’t get the rotten flesh out of the nooks and crannies though. That will drop out gradually on the odd occasion that the knife gets used.

Honestly I just use soap and hot water chap to be honest.

I’ve got a number of wooden handled knives and a Real Avid Viscera which has a saw that folds out of the handle and I’ve always been able to get them proper clean with a good load of hot water and soap, maybe run some water through it if there’s some gunk inside but it all comes out. The Avid looks like new and I’ve done dozens of deer with that one, and the wooden handled ones just get a coat of linseed oil after washing to refresh them.

I’ve actually only got one knife that’s a synthetic holder and handle, and would presumably be the only one that’s considered as “suitable” by the definition of the best practice guides 🤷🏻‍♂️

Seriously? How do you know that they're clean when they have gaps and places that you can't see and get into? There's a reason why they don't conform to best practice!

Just gargle with Vercon S that should do the trick pal 😂

Now anybody reading this that doesn’t understand sarcasm or doesn’t have a sense of humour please don’t drink Vercon…… it doesn’t taste nice 😂😂

I’m with you on this one. Folding knives have no place in stalking. The EKA swing blade is one of biggest gripes. The whole swing process pushes detritus into the handle.

I’ve got Mora’s which I personally hate. The only cheap knife I would have now days is the Victorinox butchers knives. Far easier to keep sharp.
