When funds allow I am going to upgrade to something like this complete with a stove.Tents these days are one hell of a lot better than they were. No longer do you have to suffer the torture of a rolled up carry mat. Modern inflatable sleep mats are really comfortable. A decent Down sleeping bag / duvet really works well. If car camping you can afford to go more towards a bell tent with more room inside. No reason not to have a little heater blowing in warm
Air or a wee stove either.
I have had a Vango Equinox Tunnel tent for 20 odd years. Nice big porch so you can cook, sit around in shelter and a bedroom area for 2 or 3. Takes 5 minutes to put up.
Sleeping bag is 4 season from Alpkit, again 20 years old.
Biggest challenge in my view when camping is keeping clean. I certainly do not want to go to bed smelly and covered in blood. A hot shower is wonderful, but provided you have a good warm tent a cold stream works just fine and then get warm.

I am awaiting pictures of you sleeping in itIn process of Building my own
We did this in an old barn we had a wood burner in and touring caravans under cover of the barn . ( Stevie P ,will remember this)Have you thought of using a length of pipe/tubing so as to open zip only enough to poke pipe outside lol.
Main hunt mate,he has one as do his two sons. The three arrive in three separate vehicles to the one bush camp (or to my home) all from the one house ffs. Methinks in this case one vehicle and one tent would be somewhat cheaper and easier.
IF I was to have one I reckon this configuration below is far better.

I saw a chap on YouTube who had a camping pod, think just a box, which he then slid onto his std ifor william flatbed 8ft x 5ft, which ment only one trailer for multiple uses.I've been using a tentbox roof tent for a couple of years now, primarily for use when camping overnight on stalking grounds, often forestry blocks with few flat grassy spots for a tent. 10 mins to put up, so similar to putting up a free-standing tent. Being higher up, it's often less affected by midges as there's a bit more of a breeze. I find it really comfortable and my 4 yr old daughter loves camping with me in it when I'm not stalking. The challenge I've found is when you want to move the truck to another bit of the ground - perhaps to recover deer, and then have to pack the tent away. I'm planning on getting a lightweight trailer and mounting it on top to give a wee bit more flexibility and meaning I'm not driving around with it on the truck all the time during the week day commute.
I had a van it got wrote off.Sod off this tent nonsense and get yourself a van. Water, brew gear, night heater... posh stuff![]()
