My crystal ball says, no new ice vehicles in 2030 with petrol and diesel to be phased out by 2050.
In 2035 the government realises that this will be impossible to achieve and ice vehicles back on sale by 2036.

The actual program is no new pure ice cars or vans to be sold from 2030 and no new plug in hybrid cars or vans to be sold from 2035
Between 2030 and 2035 only new plug in hybrid cars or vans that can travel some, as yet unspecified distance on electric power alone can be sold.
If it takes the government until 2035 to decide that this is impossible, there will be no new pure ice cars and vans available for sale in 2036 because they stopped being sold five years previously.
Car manufacturers plan their production years in advance, so expect to see a declining number of new ice cars and vans available for sale as 2030 approaches.
No car dealer wants to be left with unsold new ice powered cars and vans on their stock list on 31 December 2029
In the EU, all new cars and vans sold from 2035 on must not produce any CO2 emissions, so it looks like they have missed out the plug in hybrid step that will happen in the UK.
Also, the EU has agreed that their zero CO2 emission law will not apply to manufacturers who produce less than 1000 vehicle per year
This will allow the likes of Morgan and Caterham to continue producing ice powered vehicles
The UK government has not yet made any announcements about small volume manufacturers

ice cars from the far east (China, Japan and Korea) arrive here all the time.
Typically it takes about 7 weeks from departure to arrival in the UK
However, when the sale of new ice vehicles is banned from 2030, all those ships carrying all those vehicles from the far east will still continue to arrive in the UK - but they will be full electrically powered vehicles

You could, and since the ban only applies to new vehicle sales, it's possible those ships could be full of old ice cars - but somehow I doubt that will be allowed to happen

I'm sure that's true, but the majority of people do live close enough to public transport to make it a viable alternative to personal transport.
Government policy is to reduce CO2 emissions and one part of that is to reduce the number of ice powered vehicles on the roads
Every policy has winners and losers and, when they get it right, the number of winners outweighs the number of losers
This particular policy tends to favour urban dwellers (who are the majority) and disfavour rural dwellers - may of whom appear to be members of this forum

Theyve been trying to roll out EV charging points that are built into kerbs that are then tapped into the DNO supplies for street lights.

Its a pretty slow process and behind schedule I believe.

I still dont think it will happen.
