Depends how high the birds are though? I'd throw 36g gram 5's at them if they were coming off rising ground at height. It's only an extra 20% of shot or 8 yards more on your reach. To be fair, 30g at 20 yards up is a bit of a pillow fight hit centre pattern![]()
I have recently bought new catridges for the start of the pheasant season. Black gold game 5's 32 grams they cost me £262 for 1000 anyone know where i can get them cheaper in central scotland?![]()

what a load of poppy cot
I use 1 ounce loads out of my 20g and they seem to cope with the tallest birds this country has to offer
it's not always the cartridge that is not upto the mark
They are high birds! they certainly work and there is little recoil of them. no idea where to buy them cheap?
I think you will need all the lead in the air you can get this year young Grasshopper?
As his Shoot Captain i will ensure Mark is under them this year as he is an asset to our syndicate.
Rich to be fair its a bit flat where you are mate just right for the little 20 i suppose

TBH I was going on the fact of where else I shoot
on my ground a .410 is good enough
I hav shot high birds all over
from devon through the welsh valleys upto the hillsides and lochs in scotland
duck ,pheasant ,partridge ,snipe ,geese
you name it except grouse, geeese were a little tough for the 20 so I reverted back to a bigger toy
this last year at a scottish estate called Glen Striven I shot my highest ever pheasant ever and January birds at this estate are as good as any that the world can produce
the little 20 coped just fine![]()

yeh?, so you can kill a bird with luck at say 50 yards with a weak 28g ounce pattern and yes we've all seen it done so forget the others that keep on going? A better pattern with high birds is more resposible and appropriate, that's not a debatable opinion. Throw what you like at your birds though as that's every gentleman's privelage.
