Sellier & Bellot Blue 6.5mm Creedmoor TXRG 120gr Lead Free - Anyone using?

Sellier & Bellot Blue 6.5mm Creedmoor TXRG 120gr Lead Free - Anyone using?

Ideally experience on live animals Muntjac to Fallow (or bigger) and a decent sample size of downed animals.

Currently using Sako 120gr Powerhead Blades and I was wondering if they are worth the extra £10-12 per box.
I’ve been using these for about two years now, through a tikka with 20” barrel.
Honestly, I can’t fault them. I’ve had one animal not hit the deck as it should have and that was down to me and poor shooting.
I’ve probably used 120 rounds now, all at deer (bar a handful at a target for zero and zero check) and I’ve shot heaps of roe and muntjac, a good number of fallow and a handful of sika with them - no issue with any of it.
Good knock down power, low level of meat damage and bruising and as accurate as I can be.
I’d recommend them whole heartedly.

They get 2800fps out of my 22" 6.5 Creedmoor. A touch on the slower side but accurate as hell.

Tested them out through the chrono as I'd heard about this slow batch also. Bought quite a few boxes lately and they're all good.
The slow batch was .308, or at least the ones I had were! May have been the same in 6.5 CM

Have you run them over the chrono? There was a slow batch of .308 around that was only making around 1500 ft-lb
I haven't no- but i have boight several boxes so a spread of batches and based on bullet drop etc I'm v confident they are travelling as fast as they should be.

They also released a 110gr batch which were slow intentionally. Not legal for all species and I doubt they would expand that well.

I suppose that S & B use the same 120-grain bullet in their 6.5 x 55 as they do in the 6.5 Creedmoor. If that is the case, my Sako 85 Finnlight in 6.5 Swede went from 0.6 MOA off the bench with Norma 120-grain factory (Nosler Ballistic Tip bullets) to 1.75 MOA with S & B eXergy Blue under precisely the same conditions.

(Ignored hole was the cold, newly-cleaned bore shot)

Sellier-Bellot-zero.jpg

Norma ammo: MV 2,775 fps
S & B ammo: 2,813; SD 23

I would only use this ammo on close-range, undemanding shots.

I have taken two (?) animals with it: One muntjac (100 yards?) and one fox at 90 yards. Both dropped in their own shadows. Carcase damage was far less than with the Ballistic Tips. I noted that the sound of impact was also far less obvious than with my usual ammo.

I now carry one S & B cartridge with me, in case I have an unchallenging shot and plenty of time.

I won't be changing over to copper.

Unless you have to….

I've tried the 7x57 and would have had a better group with a 20 bore at 150. Probably got 30ish left. Will stick with GECO SP 165gr until the end.
