Semi Auto Vs Full Auto for Hunting

Having witnessed the damage the hog’s do in Oklahoma and Texas first hand - I understand the need for huge culls, however, the mini gun is ridiculous, dangerous (he’s praying and spraying) and does shooting and control no favours….

It reeks of a Walter Mitty that never got a chance to carry out his urges in the military.

Even the fully tactical gear with the other rifle is a bit…erm…”John J Rambo”….🙄

And i hope he's got a spade with him - 1m deep is the guidance and i assume he will be fully compliant.

Copper ammo as well i bet.

Having given it some thought, my conclusion is that the reason behind it is probably that by using the mini-gun for culling, the gun-enthusiast farmer can put it down as a tax-deductible cost in the farm books, which could be significant given the purchase price of these things (only pre 1986 automatic weapons can be legally bought and owned in the US). Other than that, I can't really see any advantage to it...

Either method I want to try, in one sense it's a shame the pigs go to waste, but they aren't "game" animals, they are akin to a rat infestation in a barn. No one is coughing up the money to turn these porkers into sausage, just too many of them. Some of the yearly contests down south they are shooting 2000 a weekend, figure that there are others hunting and trapping year long, and this one weekend 2000 get shot in one area.
Hate to waste meat as much as the next guy, but no one wants to deal with processing their own hogs, plenty of people will take them off your hands if they are cut up and processed though - free of course

How many hog’s are badly wounded and not killed with that mini gun though?
The sad reality is no one cares, it's like akin to how long do mice/rats suffer from poison. They are a scourge on the landscape that need to be eradicated by any means, it is not hunting, it is eradication
Just like the chopper shooters in NewZealand, or when they are dropping 1080 to poison the invasive animals there. Problem with something like using 1080 or similar poison where these pigs are in the US, too many other animals that belong will also die

I understand that - however, the minimum wounding them isn’t a “nobody cares” thing…it’s inefficient and reckless.

But the most efficient method isn't allowed, if things were about efficiency - Poison -
and reckless.
You mean like hunting at night with thermals?

That was tongue in cheek, we aren't allowed to do that here in Canada, against the law but in areas where things are acceptable and within the law, have at it and enjoy all you do.

I can guarantee that if we were not over here wrapped up all cosy on this overcrowded island I'd give anyone from here 2 months of shooting them pigs all ethical like before they wished they had a mini gun and chopper!

I knew a young feller from the Midlands that went harvesting in the states. Within two weeks he bought an ar15 and a thousand rounds to just shoot varmints during harvesting!
We live on a tiny island and the people have tiny thoughts and always seem to think others do it wrong 🤷

I’ve lived there, shot feral hogs and seen the damage first hand…I still think the mini gun is inefficient and reckless.

Also bloody expensive to run, even in the USA and also damn noisy. The guys with the semi-autos are doing very well. I imagine that picking up after a night's culling will be quite a task. How are they disposed of, burial, incineration?

Not many. Lots of mince though. Joking aside it’s not the first time some bright spark had the idea to use machine guns on animals look at the great Emu war..

Depending on the problems in the area, left where they lie, again this isn't so much of a cull as an eradication of a pest

They should just trap them that’s a waste of Ammo and good pig meat
Trapping happens but isn't as efficient, loads of YouTube videos of guys trapping, amazing to see the amount of pigs, and the quickness of breeding, think I saw somewhere the sows can be bred at 3 - 4months old, can have offspring twice a year and up to 12 piglets each time. I agree, that's a lot of sausage and lean bacon going to waste
