A new tip of the week thread

I have the RCBS green unloading plastic hammer (all the others are of the same design) and when a round is inserted into the collet they expand and there are three gaps caused, due to the hammer force when hitting a hard surface I was getting powder jumping out of the hammers cap. Now I have added a thick tractor inner tube washer without a centre hole on top of the collet and the powder stays where it should till tipping out time.

They are useful tools.
We all make the odd cock-up
I recently reloaded 5 .243 58 grn vmax into .222 cases
Thinking "they are going in snug, I wont need the factory crimp die"

Glad it was only 5 rounds. All components rescued c/o the RCBS green hammer.
Full size die repaired the cases.
Glad it was only 5!
It is a tiresome tool but sometimes handy.

I am only human (he says as he slinks away in shame and embarrassment)

Oh and nice tip Bavarianbrit.

Thanks

Easier to use the right-sized shellholder from the press…. No gaps.

I have tried that too but I was not satisfied with the function. I have noticed that the aluminium 3 piece collets only last so long before the flanges wear away.
Anyone want to begin CNC producing mild steel longlife ones? They are a universal fit but they do come as small medium & large.
