Driven Boar Calibre

The use if electronic over ear defender are a huge advantage if the volume is on max.
Why wouldn't you use them !
Because they're uncomfortable to wear for a longer period of time. And the noise is very unnatural. A mod is the way to go on driven hunts.

Next time you wear electronic muffs while hunting, pay very close attention to the moment you take them off. The nature just bursts into life, sounds are natural, you can pinpoint the direction of sound. Your situational awareness is SOOO much better.

If your shooting a rifle or shotgun without ear protection your an idiot. If you think shooting a moderated rifle without ear protection won't damage your hearing your an idiot. I wear ear protection for all my shooting be it on the range or hunting. Ear muffs for the shotgun or double rifle or in the ear custom plugs for the .22 or the .308 because they have raised combs.
I've got trophy sized luggs and have never found wearing ear muffs or plugs uncomfortable. My hearing was damaged years ago because I was an idiot. Lesson learned and I want to protect the hearing I have left. When your hearing is damaged its damaged permanently. These days I hear tinnitus instead of bird song.

Thank you Alan for your audiol diagnosis from an 80+ year old idiot that has been shooting for the best part of 70 years.
I don't have tinnitis, just a little hearing loss but no more than any other of my age or military career.
I find most idiots are those that go round calling others idiots just because they don't do what the caller does.
Oh by the way = 'you are' is you're, not your your, I thought you would have known that having worked in a school.
By the way, what has this post got to do with Calibres for driven boar ?

Well lucky old you for only having a little hearing loss at 80+. Where did you get that I had worked in a school? I left school when I was 15,worked in agriculture for 15 years and then work in concrete repairs and the concrete industry for next 40 + years so you will have to excuse me if my spelling or grammer are not up to your high standard. Like many I write my opinion on the subject at hand and that opinion is worth no more or less than anyone elses.

You are indeed lucky and one of a very small minority.
But then like vegans we know that minorities often make the boldest claims.
As someone who has worked as an ENT surgeon for over 30 years I agreed with Jagare 100%.

The use of mods is not permitted in some country's, Croatia allowed them at one time but was a rather grey area depending on who you asked, the last time i went we where told they were not permitted.
The inability to recognise the direction can be awkward but a quick lift of either side of defenders is all thats needed, or so i find. Regarding sweaty ears, its short lived compared to standing in a crowd seeing peoples lips move and not able to understand what they are saying.

You live your life you make your choices,

Hello, I give my opinion.

A powerful caliber with a premium bullet may allow you to hit the wrong zones and cash it in anyway.

9.3 x 64/ 62/ 74 is my vote for the boar.

I may agree with him but I object to being called an idiot by someone who told me once he was a caretaker at a school at some time and when speaking to me used expletives for every other word.

How on earth would you remember what job I said I did? You were so ****ed in the bar trying to impress the bar owners daughters that you missed the next days hunting because you were so hung over. You did make a right tit of yourself that evening. I've never worked for a school in any capacity. Swear alot? Phuck me yes :thumb: .

Steff,

Those may be very good reasons for YOU not to wear them, but there must be thousands of people who don't find Peltors, or similar uncomfortable to wear, and find the noise amplification a massive benefit, and not a hinderance ! Similarly for the in ear versions.

As for hunting driven with a moderator, I suspect you're in a very small minority.

Just to add on the use of mods in some country's they will confiscate if they feel like it.
You would need to be pretty fluent in whatever language to stand a small chance of having them returned.

Another one of those life's choices ;) you can choose to take the advice or not, either way its no loss to anyone but those that run the gauntlet.

You definitely do not remember me as I do not drink except on maybe celebratory occasions or as a toast but certainly not enough to make me tipsy. As for being so hung over I missed a days hunting, dream on !

Well if it wasn't you then we've never met and if we've never met then your talking about somebody else or talking bollocks.

Before someone starts a fight, let's go back to ear protection. In my experience the plugs are dangerous: while removing them you can easily damage the eardrum with the depression created in the outer ear. Moreover, the plugs protects the ear just against sounds arriving by air, whilesound arriving via bones, not stopped by a shell (or is it a muff?) are still reaching the eardrum and related cable.

I used to use the cens active in ear type. I now use sordins for hunting and if I am at a range I use 3M passive peltors that offer 37dB.

better safe than sorry.
