Lead shot could be banned in the Autumn 2023

Don't panic sell. Any unwanted lead based ammunition send to me cartridges or bullets. Lead shot. Any 22, 17 HMR and .308" bullets.
Oh and it's free. I'll do the postage.
Can't be fairer than that šŸ˜‡

Agreed on your closing comment but do you really believe a Government of any hue would give a damn about ā€œtransitionā€ arrangements or indeed compensation for those with fowling pieces that are rendered obsolete/unusable?

K
indeed but it feels like we are turkeys voting in favour of Christmas.

Basc 5 year transition period can't be that far off now anyway?
Just shows how far off they were with that, ammo manufacture being ready etc, plenty viable alternatives.

When will the actually announcement be made?
Just like the recent 1 on releasing birds, its absolutely no good to anyone coming out with laws like this 1 or 2 weeks or even 1 month before it co.es in.
Gun shops and clays grounds will have already ordered enough shells for this season.
Ammo makers will have already made and possibly shipped this seasons ammo to the uk.
These fu#kwits making these rules dont realise there is a whole chain involved with things being ordered 6 if not 12 months in advance

With game just like deer as long as game dealers insist on use of non toxic if ur selling to them ur really going to have to comply.

If ur not u could pretty much carry on as normal below the radar.

I know 1 shoot I pick up on converted to steel last season for game dealer.
Never picked so many wounding, ducks coming down like a sack of spuds and bleeding heavily but very very alive, a pure pain to pick on water with them diving.
The guns there were never the best of shoots anyway buy a big difference in wounding from steel to lead.

What are your plans for the switch in you stalking/driven/pest control shooting.
Hello Tim.243.

I am now sixty-five and, as said, my heart has pretty much been wrecked by the A-Z vaccine. I will not renew my FAC when it comes up again in 2027. So that'll be the deer done. I'll have had a FAC for by then fifty years (my first FAC was granted in 1976) and for shotgun use I have a few Spanish side by side guns that are cheap enough to use and not care if they become worn or worn out.

So I'll keep the SGC, indeed I've just taken six days shooting for the coming season, and for pest use I've also acquired a 1960s Browning Auto-5 in 16 bore (the 2 3/4" chambered variant) to go with the similar vintage one I have in 12 bore and 2 3/4". For my father's gun that he had on his twelfth birthday in 1919 I will pay the price and use bismuth (as I have for two decades now on duck) and also I have a full slab of Hull's tin shot. How that tin performs we shall see I've yet to try it!

My Boss I sold, as mentioned on SD, in December 2021. I took a loss on it, yes, but for what I did get for it then as a single gun I could buy a pair of them now. If you want a "best" English gun fill your boots. the prices have crashed since 2022. I've always believed on playing the percentages and there's some will now take an even bigger "hit" when they sell than the modest £1,500 or so loss that I took against what it originally cost me.

And for my ten year old? I've just got a set of MEC dies in .410 to reload for that calibre, and with bismuth for when he is twelve. That and the two AYA Cosmos 16 bore I have at the back of my cabinet for him!

Thank you for asking. Stay well. What will you replace the 150 grain bullets you use in your .270 WCF with?

The Swedish government is not happy with the EU lead ban as it stands and are digging their heels in over it. There won't be a total lead ban on bullets in the near future here and a shooting competition called , Jaktstig has to be shot with lead ammo. Clay shooting has been steel shot longer than I've lived here as has duck shooting over water.
The EU have got their panties in a twist because Sweden has still no implemented the last lot of firearms laws that were brought in several years ago
I was at my LGS yesterday looking at a steel proofed shotgun for the coming season as we will be duck shooting on a new 10 acre wet land my mate has created.

I have a stack of steel for fowling in the 3" 425 the 325 I can use steel also we have a copper load which my friend has tested and used in the field for deer. That development will be the base for my .270.

Interesting article re time scales in the Shooting Times today.

Lead shot could be banned in the autumn of this year - Shooting UK
Journalistic extrapolation. The bill may be put before the house in the autumn and it may pass its first reading but that does not mean it becomes law in the autumn. It then goes to the Lords, and with luck it will arrive back in the commons with a raft of amendments which will have to be debated etc. That will likely push it into the next parliamentary session when MPs will be more concerned with the upcoming election. So its possible the bill will languish on the "pending" list for the remainder of this parliament with more pressing (vote catching) matters taking precedence.

Yes. I agree. The announcement to ban self-loading rifles was made in September 1987. The actual Act to do so received Royal Assent in November 1988 and the majority of what was in the Act...the surrender to the police for destruction of such firearms...was not completed until midway through 1989 I think?

Is there not a danger this type of bill is exactly the kind they would rush throu?

Scores the tories a few much needed browny points of some more central green or lab voters, and very little negatives.
The rural/ shooting vote is pretty small anyway and will most likely still vote tory anyway or possibly more likely not vote atoll.
But very few negatives to sticking the boot in again.

But wot gun shop or ammo makers going to do if still hanging about in the spring?
Make/order lead and hope not banned or just say f#ck it and order steel?
Could be an expensive gamble if u get it wrong

This is precisely the reason why the anti's are pushing for a lead ban, they couldn't care less if game meat for sale has lead in it but they have identified that bringing potential lead poisoning to the attention of the public will further their aims to get lead banned. Then when it is banned they will immediately chase us down for using inhumane steel shot.

I'll use up what I have. Cut up the useless valueless firearms and get some archery gear and happily for some, you'll never hear from me again.

I look forward to seeing your workshop photos of your new NV fitted to your bow.
Early morning job from then on.

If they want to criminalise me now , demonise me to attempt to force me to conform to their portrayal of the new world order I may as well go the whole hog and comply to nothing anymore!
I dance to their tunes enough just as it is already to just pull a trigger. Any more chit they can all get knotted.
There will be many stock piling out of their controlled amounts to circumnavigate this situation. There will be a run on shotgun cartridges. If you have the money fill a warehouse with them. You'll double your money after a lead ban!
It's a stupid world, run by selfish stupid people with stupid ideas.

The thing that worries me is when they take our guns away. It would be terrible to develop Alzheimer's at that time and forget where I left my Hornet.😱

Saw the same thing - go to a pheasant shoot using lead and even standard birdshot drops them lovely.

Go wildfowling and a 3ā€ magnum with #3 shot in steel pricks them and they either fly off or come down still alive….

Lead has a far greater sectional density and penetrates much better.
