Home Office and Plymouth "Tragedy"

It’d be interesting to know the trend ie number of staff v licence holders in each force area over the last 5 years.
Hopefully someone will do a request for this information. In finding out the full picture of what happened. Not that the shooting community need to know who to blame.

Ministers decline to back stricter shotgun controls after Plymouth mass shootings

Ministers will not back calls for stricter controls on shotguns following the Plymouth mass shootings.

Home Office minister Chris Philp said the Government would launch a consultation into firearms licensing following the killings in Keyham, Plymouth in 2021, but stopped short of accepting a coroner’s calls for gun law reform.

…the Government had “decided not to proceed with recommendations on aligning shotgun and firearms legislation”.

He added: “Shotguns are already subject to significant controls, and they are important in helping farmers control vermin on their land, as well as being used in a variety of rural pursuits.

“We will keep this under review, but we are currently of the view that additional controls on shotguns are unnecessary and would have a negative impact on their legitimate use.”

This has given me some hope that maybe (just maybe) there are some politicians who are not out and out anti shooting.

I know Corbyn and the mad commies all are, but doesn’t seem like they have much support in the general public outside of student unions.

Looks like common sense is still alive & well, albeit in very small quantities.

FAC fee should cover its cost. End of
Be careful for what you wish and that the final revised fee might encompass beyond simple FAC “administration” as it could be eye watering:

1. Mandatory mental health evaluation by Home Office approved Consultants. You can forget Medcert and a cosy chat with your GP of 30 something years acquaintance.
2. The cost of a fit-for-purpose, correctly resourced and fully trained Licensing Team.
3. The cost of County Shooting Sports Enforcement Officers to ensure compliance with the terms of FAC’s and allied legislation such as a ban on the use of lead ammunition.

I could go on.

Indeed. It would be useful for al the shooting organisations to collaborate in a single solution to the administration of the process. I'd happily pay more if I could eg do a One for One and change moderators at the RFD. All the purely admin tasks that do not need to burden the process. But we have said that here many times
