Anyone Running a Pickup with BFGoodrich tyres?

I have a new truck and I was going to run the stock tyres (highway terrain) through the summer and get something like General Grabber AT3’s in the autumn.

I have the option though of getting a full set of BFGoodrich tyres for cheap off a mate.

My question for anyone who has made a similar switch is what sort of drop in mpg did you experience?

With my previous AT3’s on an L200 I switched on the day of purchase so never had time to find out and a similar story with my Volvo but I did probably see a drop of 1-2 mpg on that. My guess is BFG’s Will be similar?

I haven’t noticed much difference. I have Grabbers and my pickup struggles in slippy conditions, I am not sure how much is down to the light load bed and how much is down to the tyres.

I would be very tempted by the BF Goodriches in your position. I have noticed a few people who rely on off road vehicles for their living use them and save elsewhere

I’ve had them on two trucks so far.
I really rate them, hard wearing and never need air topping up. Expensive but if you can get a deal go for it. I’ve done 40k on a set and still have maybe another 20-30k left in them. Mpg will go down by 2-4 mpg. But my hilux was a pain even on wet grass with road tyres when the back was empty. I got offered a second used set and a stupid price which I’ve got stored in my garage ready for when I need them.

You have just bought a new truck.

You might see a drop of 1-2 mpg?

Life is way too short for this kind of stuff.

PS
I drive a 110🤑
You have a point but with a road millage of 40k per year a 6% increase in fuel costs is something like £500 a yeah and over a 4 year life £2k. Now I could just walk and drag more for stalking, but I regularly need to ferry people and gear around estates for various activities.

On another note I will see your 110 and raise you a pinzgauer (my other shooting transport), which makes the 110 a Rolls to drive in comparison. 😉

Get your truck remapped to over come the loss In mpg and get the bf ... every one knows what a good tyre they are.
Just a suggestion.

Yep that’s the bugger. Max speed of about 50 and a gearbox like a bucket of coal with a stick in it. There isn’t enough money in the world to make me think about driving it off the estate where it lives though.

But I have never had to even think about reversing back to a passing point on a country lane as the other guy is already in reverse before I have even looked in my mirrors.

I run the road tyres the D max came with in the late spring through to Oct ish then put a new set of rims of ebay (110) quid with maxus worm drives for the other part of the year.
Seem daft to wear chunky expensive tyres away on the tarmac also when the ground is dry as a chip

They go on forever, the walls went before the treads on mine (when I say “went” I mean started tiny cracks but were still totally fine) that was well after 30k miles, they pay for themselves in the long run

Did but on the roads around here they got scrubbed off in the summer moved to two set of wheels in the end to save money .
Had a set of the old type I ended off cutting off the corner block as my eyes couldn't stay in one place after a few hours on the motorway.

I had thought about getting that done but heard differing opinions, plus side more power and more mpg (how is that even possible, but negative side it shortens the life span of the engine?

I have BFG AT's, always have had them on my Hilux, hard wearing tyre and good off road

I wouldn’t go for GG AT3 - I lost 4 over about 18 months due to side wall damage. I’m now on my second set of Falken Wildpeak AT3 and cannot fault them! They were on my red FL2 yesterday!

If you get stuck 'offroad' how much will it cost to recover you back to the road? The AA won't come offroad to find you. My winter tyres get more mpg and the car is no longer behaving like an ice hockey puck for me that is worth the additional cost.

I ran my new hilux for about 4 months on the M and S tyres it came with. I was getting average 30mpg. When I fitted the BFGs 12 months ago I dropped to 26mpg
