Who Shoots an XXV shotgun?

Going off track a bit but a live pigeon gun is an interesting gun to shoot with which was basically what the late and very great Percy Stanbury had made and shot with plenty written on the gun itself and pickies🤪
Been all over the place with shotguns and enjoyed the ride and varying quests and a great fan of English guns of the period but for last twenty years shot with a browning a1 20 bore shs with 261/2 inch barrels which goes against the grain for me but it works🤷🏽‍♂️
That Browning sounds a beaut!

I own a lovely (to my eyes anyhow) Churchill Crown XXV, gifted to me my my late father on my 11th birthday. I remember the occasion well because I was ill in bed and off school on that day. It certainly 'perked me up a tad' !
It is a delightful gun to 'walk-up' with, though I have used it extensively in the pigeon-hide and very occasionally early season or frosty weather walking-up teal in the gutters on the marsh.
I realise this style of gun will not suit everyone, but to the 'OP', if you fancy one, give it a go, you may be pleasantly surprised !

Had some use made in 1972 second one have had as made big mistake getting action re blacked and could not look at it again so the quest began to find another.
Barrels could do with been longer imo but for me it shoots instinctively having straight hand stock so not a o/u aiming tool not there is anything wrong with that.

Much and such tbh, they are both lovely, would say the Arrieta has nicer wood, both quality, but would say the Arrizabalaga is the next level up
Believe mr Roberts in the eighties went a long way to making them popular lot of folks saved their pairs of English stuff and bought into them recall thinking the aya no1 of the same period was a fence post in comparison but still a nice gun for what they were.

It is absolutely beautiful and definitely comparable to an AYA number 1
will be a lovely gun am sure and thought it would have had more life breathed into it than a no1 which I used to own and have loaded and cleaned a few Arrizabalaga guns which handled lovely.

How does the Arrieta compare to the AYA?
Of the two I think the Arrietta is more elegant yet, it is said, the AYA is made from the better quality materials. I think Arrietta sidelocks are "nicer" than AYA No2 sidelocks but that AYA boxlocks especially the Yeoman Ejector are better than Arrietta boxlocks. Garbi and Arrizabalaga are definitely a step above either.

I recognise that😉
How is it?
Heavy at 7lbs 1oz and for a haporth of tar they spoilt the ship with poor finishing to the end of the butt. I prefer scoring there to chequering but the butt on this looks as if done with a half round file on Friday at five minutes before going home time!

Interesting that pedro Arrizabalaga apparently made around two hundred “best” guns a year circa 1980 also when they became fashionable for a while as a substitute as to save best English pairs especially on the grouse circuit same period.
Also the word was but cannot confirm if mr roberts name was on a Arrizabalaga it was imported in the white and finished here specific pairs I recall were self openers from memory.

Yes mine is a self opener and if you look on the locks you can see J Roberts
