Having sold my BRNO hornet because I just wasn’t comfortable with the double set trigger I got the thumbs up from the FEO yesterday for a like for like variation so I’m now actively looking for a replacement, top of the wish list would be an R93 barrel etc but I don’t think that’ll be happening.
So In order of preference a Sako, an anschutz or a custom build would be my choice, if you have anything that fits the bill please drop me a message.
Cheers

No way, that is a shame. I have a BRNO double trigger and absolutely love it. Out of all of my rifles, this is my favourite one.

Can’t fault the BRNO as a rifle, deadly accurate but just couldn’t really get on with the trigger set up, I even looked at swapping the trigger to a single but so I’m told it’s not possible.

If you are looking for a Sako Hornet you are probably aware that the last ones they made were the M78's back in the late seventies. Before that was the P72 and way back before that was the L46. I have been lucky enough to have owned both the M78 and currently the L46. They will be hard to find but worth it if you have the time and patience. You mentioned the Anschutz, but not the other German, Weihrauch. They might be worth a look. I have a HW60J in .17 hmr and think it is a great gun. Finish and build quality fantastic and what might appeal to you, the record trigger. A very good two stage trigger. You are looking in the right direction with brands in my opinion, good luck in your search.

I see that you might be lucky. The message from FH came in as I as typing. (two fingers)

Changing to a single trigger is very easy.
I changed mine using the RifleBasix kit
It took about 10 minutes and the result is a crisp single trigger that has a good range of adjustment

Mine was a BRNO Fox 2, they said they don’t do one for it ?

Great advice from the guys above. But in your original post you said you had already sold your Brno. So I guess if you can you buy it back and then add 100+ usd plus shipping and duties to get the trigger replacement, your in for whatever that comes to. Or bid on the Sako from Southams which is suggested at 70 to 100 plus the hammer fee and pay whatever that comes to , you will either way get an old world gun that will be a pleasure to shoot.

Good luck.

I would buy a slightly used CZ527 or rebarrel a donor one in stainless. There are a few stocks and various gizmos available. Other than a slightly high bolt throw, that was lowered on the more recent models and a safety that seems counterintuitive to some people, they are reliably very accurate and well made, with a good adjustable trigger. Though drawn to Sako products generally , I believe the L46 Hornet is the really accurate one. Is the M78 built on a 22 rimfire action ?

Check Emma's rifles at Darlington, he's had a Sako 22 Hornet in stock for yonks. He usually has a few Hornets in stock but don't hold you breath for a discount  Keep you eye out for a used Weihrauch, I've got a HW66 and its a cracking little gun, bit heavy mind. Theres no problem loading the tipped 40g bullets in the mag either. Thats something that can be problematic with other makes.
22 Hornet is a cracking, cheap to load round that packs a punch. 👍

If you look in Southams autumn sale online, there is a Sako M78 in .22 hornet but it’s not threaded for a mod, lot 648.

@Triggermortis
I’ve asked my RFD to look at this with a view to bidding on it knowing it may need a rebarrel, thanks for the heads up FH.
Although I have a weirauch h100 and love it I tried a HW in .22lr and .222, I didn’t like feel for no particular reason so they are out thank you chaps.

You’re taking the right approach with this rifle after all some will have defects hence being sold in an auction.

If you also ask for a condition report from Southams they will usually get back to you plus any extra photos you may require, good luck l hope it goes well for you.

Caveat Emptor.

Many thanks for the kind offer Purdy24 but I’ve set myself the choice between a factory Sako, an Anschutz or at a push a rebuild of one or the other in a doner action.
I’m at a point where in the past I’ve bought what I didn’t want because I couldn’t find what I did and I’ve always ended up selling it because I shouldn’t of bought it in the first place, so this time it’s buy once and cry once.
Cheers

And… ..if you go for the rebuild, you can put a faster twist barrel on it. I have a rebarreled CZ527 that came with a 1:12 on it. I recently found it shoots the 35grain Hornady NTX like a storm, so I've got a clear route for when lead vanishes as I know it'll work with longer lead free bullets. Also accurate with 36gr Barnes Varmint Grenades, but those are not going fast enough to be expand as I'd like.
Most Hornets won't stabilise either of these.
Worth a thought.

22 Hornet is being discontinued by most makers unfortunately ! There are lots on the second hand market and likely a good few new ones on RFD racks . Shame you didn't just alter or swap out the trigger . Dont forget Weirauch make or made a nice 22 Hornet i think the trigger is a two stage ? Again likely dropped from the range of late ?
sales of new hornet rifles are not large , mainly because they last so long ? Bullet sales are well up there though and of course all modern rifles use the std 224 bore size .
Good luck in the search

I will likely do a barrel swap on mine if i cannot get none toxic to work when the day comes . There is a small chance of me going .17 or .20 as i have started to use the 223 in place of the hornet of late . There is a .17 NTX ! fast and frangible could be a handy thing used with care
New barrel and fitting is about what i paid for my 22 hornet new ( actually the barrel will likely exceed that cost a way)
