Scope covers?

Well folks, (like many on here I presume) I have a S&B 8x56. I’d used vortex covers for the front and back. The back fitting was always a bit loose and disappeared at some point. Are these still the best of what is available? If so, I’m going to rebuy and try and stick something inside the back cover to make the fit tighter.

If anyone has any pears of wisdom or better alternatives I’d be glad to hear it. I’ve heard the butler creek ones are bad for snapping so options welcome!

If the cover is loose just wind a few turns of black insulation tape around your scope before slipping the cover on. Do it tidily and it won't show.

If you mean lence cover try the vortex ones for what they cost they are very good. If you want scope cover flak jacket neoprene not cheap but well worth it If you have expensive optics 👍

I find Butler Creek ain’t as sturdy as they perhaps once were. I now use a Vortex Defender
(More flexible) or a ScopeCoat Flak jacket 6mm thick great piece of kit.

Buck.

As SE says above, they are a little loose on the S&B 8x56. Just nip them up with a thick black cable tie = problem solved.

Separately I use one of Big Ear’s neoprene covers - top gear.

I use a combination of Vortex Defender on the objective, held on with a couple of turns of black sniper tape or black electrical tape if required, & a Butler Creek on the rear - get one that's a very snug fit, e.g. slightly smaller dia than the scope, then warm it up with a hair dryer before pushing it over the ocular end & it should stay put. Use this combination as the left (forward hand) thumb pushes the ocular cover forward as I bring the rifle up & the left thumb (rear hand) pushes the button to release the ocular cover as I put my cheek onto the stock so all nice & ordered & flows.

March do flip ups for their scopes. They are plastic and are similar to Butler Creeks but they are an order of magnitude better. They are made by Deon the factory in Japan where the scopes are made. My scope came with a set years ago and I never use the ocular cap but the objective lens has been on the end for years. It is still working perfecty and is silent to open and never fails to close. They are brilliant and very low profile.

I too have a 56mm (not a March) scope which I keep meaning to get a lens cover for. March do an objective lens cover for 56mm and looking at the PDF for their scope high master x56mm dimensions, it looks to be a couple of tenths of an inch wider than the Schmidt scopes. It will probably fit fine but my guess is it might need the tiniest veneer of tape to create a snug fit. I think if anything it will be marginally oversize which is better than too small.

Best of all, they are only £15 each. Postage is £9.50 though. If you want one, I will get two and we can split the postage costs if you want to try one.

Cheers gents! Vortex still seems to be popular. I’ll maybe try some duct tape or something to hold the rear one on. Would be nice to have something easily removable to clean the lens or adjust the focus if someone else is using it for a shot

A bit of black insulation tape to increase the diameter is barely noticeable (see photo) and the scope cover can still be slipped on and off as required. Can't adjust focus though (it's set for my eyes), but that could easily be remedied by slitting the tape into two separate strips.

(To be honest, I only put the rear cover on for transport and storage, because it fouls my bolt).
