One can hope.
@JockStalk is correctFrom 21st October 2023 the Deer (Close Season) (Scotland) Amendment Order 2023 removes the statutory closed season for all males, meaning that male deer, of all species, (Red Stag, Roebuck, Sika Stag and Fallow Buck), maybe shot all year-round.
From 01st November 2023 those that possess a night licence, and are specifically authorised to do so, may use thermal imaging equipment and night vision scopes for the taking of deer at night.
From 01st November 2023 the requirement of a minimum bullet weight to shoot the large species of deer (Red, Sika & Fallow) will be reduced from 100grains to 80grains.
A night licence still has to be applied for and justified for specific situation and will only be issued to those on the NatureScot Fit and Competent register. To meet the condition of a night licence you generally have to be accompanied and have access to a dog. This is not a free for all
We've come to expect nothing less!Yes another monumental f..kup by the powers that be in Jockistan.
This in a nutshell. If you want to reduce the deer population hinds and does need to be the priority. The males are overshot in relative terms. Now they will be shot more, with welfare impacts on females and kids. That isnt driving this legislation, its the toff factor. Greens/SNP combo, among the worst possible mix of dunces and corruption.A shite idea that I’ll completely ignore
Just a drive to stop trophy hunting for stags
Total bellends.
Why would they?Just because they have said you can doesn’t mean to say you have to.But how many on here will turn down some stag shooting in Scotland on principle?.
Likewise because it's a sport for some doesn't mean it is a job to others. To do the job more efficiently tools have been developed, so why should they not be used. With this legislation change, it just removes the unnecessary burden of red-tape. One has to be careful when classifying killing animals for sport. General Joe Public usually accept a deer have to be shot to control numbers but don't like it when the same deer is killed for sport. It really feels to me that they want deer shooting to be a job, not a sport .
These snp ****ers are ****s of the highest order.
I’ve always called it when shooting deer is basically pest control , but that doesn’t mean it’s not a sport to some
And of course , making it a “job” is step one of taking it out of the hands of recreational stalkers.
Much to the delight of at least a pair of tools on here , but a disaster to the remaining 99.999% of actual stalkers.
Apologies, you are correct (I think). My quote was also from a BDS article but must have been a earlier one.@JockStalk is correct
Quoted text below from BDS response
“We had concerns about the use of image intensifying and thermal sights and had hoped that some of these would be addressed by these only being allowed for shooting at night under authorisation.
BDS were dismayed to learn, well after the consultation ended, that these were going to be made available for daytime use as well as for use at night under authorisation. “
Night shooting still requires an authorisation from NatureScot and thermal and nv scopes can be used.
Thermal and NV scopes can be used under general authorisation during daylight from 1st November 2023.
See if you can get a hold of the NatureScot maps on deer counts for various deer management groups. Dunno if they are public or not. On the ones I have seen male deer are anything but overshot. There were huge numbers in excess of those needed for sporting purposes. A fact recognised by stalkers themselves but for whatever reason the groups don't seem to want to do anything about it.The males are overshot in relative terms.
Otherwise I am with you, except it is wee girls from the city that get to decide what happens across the countryside. They think we are all retardsThat isnt driving this legislation, it's the toff factor. Greens/SNP combo, among the worst possible mix of dunces and corruption.
I suppose it will depend on estate/location and numbers needed for sporting purposes is likely different to that for more natural mix? I am fairly sure that due to daylight and season lengths, more effort is on males. My point, which was perhaps not worded as well as it should have been, is that maximising effort on males is counterproductive if you want lower numbers overall. The hinds/does that arent shot will produce 50% of their number as males next season- willing to listen to how others see it differently. Were all here to learn.See if you can get a hold of the NatureScot maps on deer counts for various deer management groups. Dunno if they are public or not. Obviously I have not seen them all, but nevertheless it isn't true that males are overshot, there is still a significant excess in numbers for the groups I have seen

Petition to overturn was unsuccessfulI thought this was getting appealed? Or has it gone through?
Longer seasons maybe in line with England may have been a better compromise
