If you have gone above the trigger number of guns then the request for a monitored alarm is pretty standard. I can’t speak for your area but suffolk seem happy with a system that alerts you via your mobile phone.
I’m not sure you will get anywhere with contesting the request to be honest as if you have hit the number then that’s what they want, especially in these risk averse times.
Please let us know how you get on.

had a phone call this morning as the out come is that as i have above a certain amount of firearms in order to keep my fac i am required by the home office to have a monitored house alarm fitted. this is from tvp but it is now home office guidance/rules . has any one else come up against this ?
Yes. They warned me a few years back at last renewal it was being imposed.

There is all-sorts in " guidance " some of which would reduce security if it was followed to the letter , besides think how long it would take to get an ARV to the property .
If they say it for a grant you need to do it though

having held my fac since 1980 and jumped through all the hoops required at every renewal i think this is going too far but will talk to nra/basc etc.

Was requested to do the same at my last renewal. No big issue, had my alarm control panel upgraded to one which sends alerts to my mobile phone. Cost about the same as a thousand shotgun cartridges. Bargain.

WOW!!!! It seems everyone has their own story witch in turn means every force has their own rules/criteria.
I had to get an monitored alarm too for mire than 12 including shotguns, and were told it HAD to be police monitored if a “handgun” were to be kept for humane dispatch reasons.

I put in a variation that would take me from 7 to 8 (shotguns and rifles combined) and was told that this put me into a higher security category. The FEO was happy for me to add a Wifi camera in the room with the safe, that alerts my mobile phone if someone is in the room. This was in the last couple of months with the Met Police. I already have an un-monitored alarm etc.

Interesting read! I'm on a total of 9 (5 SG and 4 rifle) so far, plus still 1 rifle on my FAC I haven't purchased. No request at the time of granting my coterminus of any additional security beyond our 5 lever locked front door or at the time of variation.

I'll probably make arrangements before the next renewal for something. Costco have some good deals from time to time.

I wonder if they would take into account having some of the firearms stored at my locker in my local club's armoury, as a means of derisking my situation...but on the other hand my license doesn't formally recognise that. Hmm.

Alarms and wifi cameras are great until the broadband goes down or the thief cuts the phone wire before entering your home….. no cellular back up on my alarm.
