Blaser R93 - R8 and 30-06 Springfield - A rifleholics dramas!

I don't drink a whole lot, I quit smoking and I am not into drugs, but rifles are addictive!
So I was late to the Blaser R93 buying into the system via a timber Ulrich Takedown chambered for 30-06, followed with a 25-06 barrel then a Professional with 7mmRemMag and 375H&H, the two magnum barrels being sold later.
A recent visit to the local gun shop had me eyeballing an R8 Success and remembering members comments who had moved from R93 to R8, I just had to have it. So I rationalised the cost somehow making the spend sound good, shelled out the savings, easy to guess the caliber, 30-06 can never have too many of them and now I have a trio.
To the guys on here stating they had made the move from R93 to R8 and their reasons, cheers I couldn't be happier.
I will keep the pretty little R93 Ulrich Takedown in 30-06, somehow by Blaser telekinesis the gentleman I bought the 25-06 barrel from contacting me asking if I would sell it, yes please that was easy. The Professional stock is currently up for sale here in Australia or I may keep it because, well because like a 30-06, can't have too many Blasers!
So the journey of the Blaser R8 begins…..Damed Blaser rifles are addictive!
To the rifle lovers out there, be wary of straight pull Germanic rifles they are like Gremlins and seem to multiply…..
Cheers

It's heavier and you can lose the trigger and mag while out hunting ! 😁
Get a standard barrel and lock you trigger mag unit in = all sorted. 😀👍

I tried many times to test this get one of mine to fallout and the only way is to insert the mag with bolt closed full capacity on mag and don’t lock it in, it may full out if your unlucky but it’s all down to driver error not the rifle

Very nice. What’s the perks of the R8 over the R93?

From a sako person who’s losing the battle to resist the blaser
Not sure yet however the R8 is still in production where the R93 stopped around 2017 and there are few parts in Australia.
The R8 feels bulkier and is a little heavier, trigger and mag can be removed or locked in the stock which would be my option as I like top loaders. Carried enough magazines in the army to know I don't need more.
I really like the Success stock which at 14.25" shoulders more like 13.75" in the Success variant (do not know why but as I am 5'8" I won't complain).
I may add a magnum caliber in future which I think the R8 better suits being a larger action, however in saying this the R93 Professional I have was a magnum with tungsten recoil reducer.
If the Blaser R93 had remained in production I would have likely bought an R93 Success because my two are super slick. I have a nice Mauser M12 Expert with an Aimpoint, it is fast but nowhere near as quick as the R93.
Cheers

Great to see someone scratching his itches. 😁👍
But don´t sell the Professional stock. It‘s the better stock for hunting, especially when you have to shoot at an angle. Above, thumbhole stocks are bulky and ugly.

Hi John
nice rifles
what mounts are you using on them

Quick update for the first range session with the R8 Success in 30-06. Took factory ammo that I had on hand, Remington Accutip 165gr and Tikka Super Hammerhead 150gr and shot 6 x 3 shot groups at 100m.
5 groups sub-MOA, first group just over and likely me not the rifle. Best group was 0.490" so all and all pretty happy.
Cheers

I would have liked to had my mits on a wood stocked 93 in 22 WMR
I

See one in Hampshire but decided on 22LR since changed that for the R8 pro

I looked at a 22Lr barrel/bolt/mag for the R93 but it's all a bit weird and the mags are like rocking horse sh*t here in Oz. I've added a 6.5x55SE and 22-250rem barrel for the R8 and am super happy with the R8.
I do have a lovely little CZ 457 in 22mag/22lr but I agree it would be nice to have a 22mag option.
Cheers

Lucky with 93 22 lr conversion it came from a gun shop the guy purchased to use ihimself and he thought to get 3 mags when he ordered it, they all worked faultlessly but they can be fiddly. I’ve seen changed to the R8 which is very easy to use but it took a while to get a second mag, nice accurate piece of kit
You can get WMR and 222 but the will need QD seperate / different bolt heads and mag other than mini standard and mag
