For what it's worth I have had plenty of torches over the years as I often work outside at night.

First thing to decide is how/ if you want to hold it. Personally now I would only entertain a torch the mounts to a rifle, top of a truck or my head! Lost track of the time I've found myself with a torch in the gob trying to do a zip/bootlace/take a pi$$.

I use these:

Have loads of 'em from an old contract but take 2 AA batteries, I use rechargeable but I know if I need to I can pick some suitable batteries up at any store easily.

Can get them cheaper... Surprisingly good, 2 power levels.

If you want one I can post you one from my stash👍

T6 headlamp from Ali express. (Would you beleve the website won't let you copy the link) they have a cob light and 4 high power led which can illuminates a football field easily for a couple of hrs. Biggest issue is when batteries run out... the quad lights are pants by comparison

that would be brilliant mate thanks, never thought about a head torch,

Led Lenser headlamps are pretty good.

This ^

LED Lenser headtorches are pretty much all I have used for the last few years. A combination of the H14R.2 as a day-to-day workhorse and some H7R Core dotted in various pockets, bags and vehicles if required. I have a hankering for an H19R, but the price is ludicrous...

Lenser UK are doing a seriously good deal on the H7R Core right now on their website, down to £70. That is a lot of torch for the money...

H7R Core + K4R Twin Pack

An adjustable head torch to maximise the benefits of the wide & spot beam offerings would be useful but they all struggle when confronted with the slightest amount of mist or rain.

The P7 torch is a decent option as well.
Fits in your pocket, has a decent long range beam.

Head torch Screwfix/Toolstation have a big selection
I have not got one but look at a Nobo make. Their big Larry is an awesome work type light. Cob strip light is stunning.

thats just reminded me of the one i used to have 20 years ago, a mag light, like a police torch, that was brilliant, :D
Ha, Maglite.
Seemed good at the time but can’t compete with LED.
I think Maglite offered a conversion at one time but never saw one.
Ours still works okay, as a torch or baton!

@kenbro @tikkat1x if you have a Maglite then get yourself one of these:

Amazon product ASIN B009BVA71G
They are a simple drop-in replacement for the old style bulb and they resurrect the old Maglites, making them into a very respectable torch. I did this with my old Maglite two years ago.

They do other bulbs for the 3, 4, 5 and 6 cell models, etc.
