Gun cabinets - how many guns?

Your FEO has I believe a record of each cabinets capacity, last time I spoke to mine to extend my firearms holding I could hear them punching away on the keyboard as we spoke, they said I had enough space so had no need to visit me with a view to checking the cabinet, 15 min visit to police station to dot I's and cross the T's and job done😉

Why on earth is he visiting in the first place? . As long as the weapons are secure in an approved cabinet that is all that is required.

got a phone call today from my FEO who wants to come and inspect my security (
I had a similar call 6 months ago.I posted a similar question. Turned out it was nothing to worry about it was because my renewal was based on a telephone discussion.
This was a physical security catch up.

In my case the security discussion was much broader spent just the cabinet.

He spent time asking about, door locks house alarm, my cctv, if people outsid could see the safe/loading bench, our cleaner our neighbours.
Our spare room has my loading set up and our joint home office. He asked my good lady how well that worked.
He was pleased that there was no shooting related items on show in the living room.
Nothing visible to alert potential potential thieves
He didn't actually look inside the cabinet. He wanted to see if its location was "Easy to put things away".
So I'd not be tempted to leave a rifle out, because it was too much hassle.

IMHO, regarding your question, this last point is relevant, if the cabinet is so small, such that its not easy to put one away and temped to put one elsewhere, then they have a concern.

PS: have a pot of venison stock simmering when he arrives.

I had a call a while ago when I bought my 223. They said we notice you have 2 shotguns and 3 rifles in a 3 gun gun cabinet. I said for a start I have a 7 gun gun cabine, then asked what it mattered how many guns I had in as long as there in, she said it was not allowed, I told her that all FLO’s and forces should start singing of the same hymn sheet. It’s like my mate lives 6 mile away and can shot foxes with his HMR, I can’t. WTF is that all about.

Yet many gunrooms advertise as they are a business and many are in industrial units with clad wall, glass cabinets and just a cable through the trigger guard....

But, best not have a deer skull on the wall, shooting books on the shelf or a framed collection of historical cartridges...that's the real danger.

I tend to leave deer skulls lying about on the floor or the furniture as our ceilings are too low to hang them up properly. Any intruder is quite likely to become entangled in antlers, trip over and impale himself. Pretty good line of defence, I reckon! I'll run that one past the FEO next time I see him....

had the FEO round the other week
long story but he came round to check the gun serial numbers against my shot gun ticket (had three of my dads guns put on there)
when I asked him did he want to check the fire arms against that ticket his reply was "you have firearms as well"
he then went to his laptop and said "yes I might as well as I'm here"
he checked all the shot guns and my rifles then said "so you've got two three gun cabinet's and a five gun so you can keep up to 11 guns and rifles"
I didn't say anything just stood there with my mouth open
I keep my two rifles in the five gun cabinet as i like room around them so as not to knock them
working on that my two shotgun cabinet's have three guns in each are Full

That’s a RESULT, 3 years ago I’ve been asked to get a bigger save in order to approve my pending variation, I’m in London, MET police
Even better - according to the sainted lady FB the man-cave is the cleanest it has ever been; well, since the last FEO visit….

I was looking after another gun for someone, a foreign client. I put it onto my shotgun cert for the couple of months before he was back for it. Two bobbies came round to check I had room in my cabinet for the extra gun. What they don't want is someone with a heap of firearms that are difficult to get into the cabinet. And after a while they get lazy and just prop a couple up against the corner of the room. It does happen. I was quite happy with that as they were saying that I had done the right thing putting this shotgun on my ticket. Then blew it by putting his hand into the cabinet and lifting out my 243 and said" is this the shotgun we are talking about".!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...J

Any police force that has enough resources to send someone out on an errand of such utter stupidity has excess manpower and is not making best use of resources.

When I was living in Cheshire (but under Greater Manchester Police) my FEO saw my 5 gun cabinet (admittedly from decathlon and bigger than brattonsound )and said "that's fine for 10guns".
Think I had 7 in it at one point.
