I went out pre dawn, spotted a group of roe in my thermal and waited for light.
I then followed them through some quarry pits where it is a game of now you see me etc..
Waiting on a high vantage l spotted a heat source in the brambles with pointy, triangular ears.
A fox asleep.

Bang .
Flop.
50yards.
Right next to the shoot feed store and main pen.

Question is,how many people will take the fox ,before the deer.
My view is that the deer will be back soon,Charlie not so easy.

I picked up my deer stalking and pigeon shooting off the back of foxing. They are a small target so hone your shooting on them made a big difference to me. In fact I had my ticket opened up through foxing which rolled into deer.

True shooting men. I would get a bollocking if I did not shoot the fox.

However as I can't eat them, I don't see them ;)

I wouldn't have taken the fox before the deer, if faced with a choice of either. I have no particular reason to. However, several times on a slow deer morning I've nailed a fox that has ambled into view and the sound of the shot has caused erstwhile hidden deer to show themselves, giving me a chance of taking one.

Fair comment, the fox was too near my day job,and my landowners twice yearly venture into the let shoot.
Which l shoot the foxes for,and get a thankyou shoot day for.
Not complicated at all.

Old stone quarry pits either side of a steep valley side make them challenging on my patch. As likely to tread on them as not see them.
Easier on the bucks on the hay and cereal fields
But all good fun.

I wouldn't shoot the fox if I hadn't been asked to by someone with a connection to the land. Both places I shoot atm want the foxes shot so fox first.

There is a book"Every Man's Hand",l half read years ago, between farms shepherds ,shoots and conservation concerns it can seem like it is so.
If they ate worms and blackberries ,well they would be fine.

I shot a fox within 150 metres of two roe last week and the deer didn’t take any apparent notice.

One of the roe subsequently came out of cover and presented an easier shot.

I would always shoot the fox 1st as you may never see it again whereas you will see the roe..
I have done it on quite a few occasions , often shooting a roe not long after the fox. The report of the rifle doesnt seem to bother the deer.
