12g o/u advice makes/models

Hi guys and girls, I’m thinking of changing my 12g and was after some advice.
I’ve had Beretta and a few others over the years and I would like something a bit different.
I go in my local shops and see Beretta, Browning and other common makes but I just fancy something different.
It’s mainly pigeon and rough shooting but I do the odd day on the peg.
I do like side plated o/u.
What do you guys have?
Pictures and info about the guns would help.
Regards Dan

Fit is the first consideration along side how you mount/walk with it. In the hide my Browning 325 sits across my knees facing right as I am left handed, on the marsh the 425 (3") if behind the salting's lays on the slip, tucked in the same as the pigeon hide. On a peg I have it broken as there is enough time to see birds coming.
Both have the same dimensions in length of stock and cast also 30" but the 425 is 8oz heaver, my previous 325 was the same dimensions.
For me I found the right gun shape style 34 years ago sorted the length and cast working on the trusted formula
"if it isn't broke then don't fix it"

I do like my Beretta, I’ve had it a while but I’m not sure why it kicks me in the cheek.
I’ve got to the point where I feel I have lost confidence as I feel it’s going to kick me, now affecting my shooting!
Otherwise I would be keeping it. It’s not a pleasant experience now

It kicks your cheek because your either mounting it bad, or it doesn't fit.

Personally I'd go to a gun shop and get it fitted properly first and go from there, save your pennies for a nice day's shooting or ammo.

A good fitting gun or a good mount will sort any problems you have with it out!

I have posted about this.
I have lost my confidence in it.
It’s been fitted a few times and I’m sure I’m mounting it correctly from people watching and experience.

Can't go wrong with a used Beretta or Browning. Buy Turkish cheap, you won't get a good price when you sell, and spares for them can be hit or miss.

Come down in the better weather in the new year and have an hour with Peter Theobold, I can arrange it you will need to cover his time. An hour will not put right the habit you could have but you will learn something positive.

Let me know via pm please.

how much are you wanting to spend ?
miroku mk11 is nice. if your browning fitted, this porbably will too.
personally, i use a mk38 for field and pigeon. tough and reliable.

I just disposed of a factory pair of 12b Rizzini RB's. They were achingly beautiful, a joy to shoot and I killed some pretty serious stuff with them! It still pains me to think that I offloaded them to be honest.

However, I made the decision to move over to 20b so picked up a lovely little EELL to get me into the swing of it. In the fullness of time I will likely go back down the Rizzini RB route, unless I am led astray by Caesar Guerini (if they took the hideous proliferation of gold inlay off the Revenant then I would be very very tempted)...

I spoke with the people at my local clay ground Normanton Shooting Ground who are all serious into their shooting (maybe three hundred cartridges a month plus they shoot each) and have some former national standard shooters. Apparently (and I was quite surprised) the majority seem to be big into Browning and/or Miroku. There didn't seem any who favoured Beretta guns.

Me I've owned but two O/U guns both old Felix Sarasqueta (for about three weeks as I couldn't get used to them) as the fit and finish was very good quality so my only worthwhile advice would be go to somewhere that you can pay and play with a selection of guns or at the very least ask those who use such almost as an extra left arm.

My advice on O/U guns (other than to get one that fits you and isn't worn out) is worth "jack".

I like the AyA Coral and also Merkels. Mine is a double trigger, bought 2nd hand in 1988. Still going strong.

Dicksons made a really nice Alex Martin over and under fir several years. Shot a 28g one and was a sweet gun.
