A friend discovered a problem with the stock on his X-Bolt which has a synthetic stock.
The rifle is approximately 10 years old.
For various reasons he hasn't looked at the rifle for several months but a week or so ago he took it out of the cabinet.
When he gripped the rifle he discovered that the synthetic stock had gone soft & sticky, he said it felt like sticky putty.
He also discovered that there had been slight contact at one point between the X-Bolt & the woodwork of an air rifle in the next "slot". The lacquer on the air rifle had been stripped for a large area around the contact point.
Has anyone experienced this phenomenon before?
What caused the deterioration?
I've had a similar problem on the recoil pad of a second hand CZ452 & was told that this was caused by oil on the pad (previous owner of course
). However, I would have expected stocks to be impervious to most chemicals they could be expected to come into contact with.
Thanks,
V
