Baited or run-through for stoats

Soon you will only be able to shoot them with a rifle of 2000j minimum and a bore of no less than .400* or something equally stupid!

The thing is, how many EU fur inspectors do you see walking around with 45 seconds set on their stopwatch?? Keep calm blah blah 👍

What the fec are these traps??
I only use fens.
OMG. This isn't a new law Smellydog. Where have you been? It's been in place for a few years now and makes it illegal to set a Fenn trap anywhere that you might catch a stoat. Note: you don't actually have to catch said stoat to be breaking the law. Considering that there aren't many places that stoats don't go, Fenn traps are now pretty much obsolete. Get caught setting Fenns and you will be in the brown stuff for wildlife crimes and we all know what that means!

Now don't start panicking.
First off, I've been in the woods, because there ain't no bull**** in there.

Secondly I've not got a trap line going except a single fen in the garden for rats.

Thirdly, has there actually been an enforcement of this bull**** law?

Oh, and is it ok to fart in my own home whilst reloading or is that now foul of some dumb ass law?
Is it ok to shoot a magpie stood in Wales but the bird is in England?

FFS

when it comes to stoats , many of the best keepers swear by the stop end set - baited ! the only downside if you haven't got lots of rabbits to use for bait
I used to use a 'blind' tunnel for trapping stoats by throwing a handful of wheat to the back of the trap, which attracted mice and then stoats.

How the hell did you managed that?
Rail trap , doc inside a mesh box , some grass had grown through the wire and I was pulling it out , pinkie finger was just through the mesh as the doc went of , the jaw passed my finger tip like a little guillotine. 35 years of setting fenns made me a bit complacent.

The ‘problem’ with Fenn traps is they fell foul of European animal welfare laws relating to the fur trade, the UK took on these European rules into our own laws. Fenns did not kill consistently within the required time frame as designated. Stoat would be caught but take time to die. Stoats are the only animal in the UK that are included on these fur trade laws, that’s why Fenns were not banned for rats or squirrels or weasel. I have never found a live stoat in a Fenn but to be honest I have encountered a few live Weasels even when apparently caught correctly.
tail captures do occur on stoats and rats using the Fenn , a lot less common with the rats . Anyhow we can no longer use the Fenn for stoats . If anyone needs an example of cruel though I would guide them to glue traps- which are also a favourite with the inexperienced and those who dont monitor their sets !

Ok let's set a Fenn very light to catch a Weasel. Perfectly legal. If a stoat gets caught in it on that light set I would guarantee it would be dead in the required time. All a complete load of .... . these trapping laws. Also the poisoning ones, why is it ok to inflict a slow death on a rat or mouse whilst illegal to use a quick acting poison on anything else. The whole system is nothing but politicians justifying there existence to the biggest population of woke W.....s ever bred in Britain.

How is it perfectly legal? The law is clear. Setting Fenn traps where they might catch stoats is illegal. People haven't spent £1000's on DOC traps for nothing. We all know that the tree huggers and antis are everywhere that they shouldn't be and will almost certainly know the law. They would love to send photos to Packman and create a shite storm. I'm not saying that I agree with the law because I don't. However, claiming someing is legal when it blatantly isn't is rediculous and asking for trouble. This is a public site FFS.

In my experience fenns kill stoats more consistently cleanly than they kill squirrels. As it stands, stoats can’t be the targeted species, but that won’t stop stoats getting caught of course so it’s effectively unpolicable. Apparently fenns aren’t effective on stoats but are ok for mink, what a joke….who dreams this rubbish up. I wonder how much trapping they’ve done because they obviously have a lot of hands on knowledge. 🙄

OK, but coming back to the original question,,, would you put up with the effort of baiting a trap if that trap was legal and cost one quarter of the price of a DOC, Tully or Perdix trap?

Always used baited traps, squirrel, stoat, weasel, rat or midden for foxes. Larssens or ladder traps. So to me it makes no difference to the type of trap. I would probably buy the cheaper or have the occasional accident.

Is this market research per chance…? Sounds like you’re looking to bring something to the market?
