No, it’s not the same, a dog is a living, unpredictable animal…not an inanimate object.

Dogs have “bad days” and naturals urges …objects don’t without influence from others.

Look at police dogs around world, all those shepherd breeds are immensely strong & determined. I'm not saying there shouldn't be sensible dog laws. No I wouldn’t!
I’m aware of a patient with a de-gloved forearm, fractured ulna and radius and major nerve injury after being bitten by a staffy / pitbull type dog.
The ban , quite rightly, is based on statistics that show the XLs have killed several people recently and savaged several others. That is due to the breeds strength and aggressive nature. This is a relatively newly introduced breed and this trend cant be allowed to continue.
The other breeds you mention are established and statically of lower risk.

The rights or wrongs of owners isn’t what the thread is about it’s mainly about just how tough these bloody machines of a dog actually are.

My English Bull Terrier, Daisy, appeared at the back door apparently having been kicked by one of the horses, femur completely snapped and leg swinging free, she didn't look happy but wasn't complaining, I was amazed....This was 20 years and a £1500 vet bill, she had it plated and was fine. The high pain threshold is one of the reason bull breeds are so good with children, they don't mind a trodden on toe or a poke!!

I absolutely love EBTs. Very pretty animals but they seem to be Marmite for people.

Is it true that they are like naughty toddlers all the time?
 
New restrictions announced today for Scotland
Most of which make sense although they amount to a ban on the medium term as no breeding , selling or exchanging is permitted.

Many animals especially dogs will cover up serious injury , there is no perceived benefit to it if your a dog . The Human is a very soft animal by comparison . Vets actually watch for a dog holding its breath when examined as much as a yelp
As regards dog aggression Breed is only a minor part of things as a " potential " . Breed bans will never work with too many bad owners stacking up to buy the next so called " dangerous breed " .

People keep saying this and I can see some truth in it but the figures don't say the same!
The jump in attacks in the last few years since bully xl's have been on the go far exceed any other potentially dangerous breeds stats so unless they introduce some new hybrid then it seems that it won't be the case on the whole

May I say I like agree with alot of your posts?
But I can’t agree with you that breed plays ‘a little’ part in this. Chicken or egg, cause or effect… the numbers don’t lie.
XLs are a menace. They should be illegal.

Agreed, excellent article - to the point, but the people that cry “it’s the owners, not the breed” can’t seem to open their eyes and see this.

I know of a number of Rhodesian Ridgebacks, a breed used for baying lions originally! Yet I can’t seem to find many instance of them killing a person…that shows that the breed are controlled and despite ability choose not to attack randomly.
 
The reason I didnt agree with the ban, in the way it is, is because the criteria can be quite vague and can include dogs that arent XLs but fit the criteria.
