Haha, kinky.
Noticed you don’t mention deer in there.Neve mind, BASC, NGO, BDS, SGA, etc.
When are SD going to produce a list of 'competent stalkers', that what I want to know...
Not unlike been a member of parliament really and perhaps a perquisite of the job.I started to register as a DSC2 qualified and a long term BASC member , then I realised there is absolutely no safeguards to how the information is used . Seems like a good way for the local office to bag a lot of stalking for themselves and their mates to me .
Now if i am wrong here please feel free to post the safeguards that are being put in place BASC because i have grave doubts about this based on experiences, though the years . Like a BASC employee gaining stalking land or favour ??
I think BASC should stay well away from this its a nightmare in the making , one that very likely could finish or diminish trust in the current membership ( even via a few whispers)
Stick to what BASC have always done and leave well alone , been to many close calls for BASC regards the Wildfowling clubs in the past !
That’s not strictly true @Conor O'Gorman you do have to join BASC whose annual subscription nearly twice that of other societies offering similar insurance without the register. So one could argue it is costing you the hike in annuI don't understand, you stated earlier something alone lines of 'money money money'. The BASC register is free and the qualifications side of things is what some landowners require. You mention pigeon vermin fox. In NI for many years we have run a scheme with UFU. Its different circumstances but the same principle and again its not about money. Details here: NI/UFU Pest Control Scheme

Please dont misquote me
I was answering another poster
All i mean is that it is perhaps another financial barrier in the way of entry to so many people who we keep saying we should be encouraging
DSC 1 what 400 quid ?
DSC 2 more ?
Those that have availed of these and other benefits would definitely say that its a bargain. 'Twice the price' of what I am not sure what you mean though. If you are happy with whatever you have that is great, it is rather silly though to be spending time knocking something else unless it is something you desire in which case feel free to join BASC.
Did mine also with David and John both great people and John had an interesting terrier “pack” and loved his hunting with dawgs and hounds, but must agree it is all bo locks in more ways than one but just do my own thing.Well oh my. I was on one off the earliest DMQ ran by Thurso college it was week staying in the garvault hotel with stalking on the garvault and achentule estates the course was run by David mcnicol and John waters. After successful completion I then found employment as a ghillie and set out from there. My question is why is the so called top organisation for country sports BASC. Trying to alienate and stigmatise those of us who do not have these shiny nice DSC tickets but by the grace of God have permissions on farm land. I can recall when all this DSC stuff came out and the general consensus was ach it's nothing to worry about.Well now it is something to worry about. Police forces insisting that you need to have at least the DSC 1 or DSC 2 or even both before you can even have a deer caliber rifle. Add to that it's now a requirement to join most syndicates or to shoot on forestry commission land or any other land as the above. So now basc wants it all for them selves. Now that he cost of starting out is pushed further out of reach of many people. I myself will not be giving in but it's getting ever more of a struggle. Perhaps a competence test or letters from references would be good enough something akin to grandfather rights. Also now you have the PDS in the mix now. Getting to be like the hiding trade with cpcs in the blue corner and npors in the red corner. At 66 I'm sorry to see our sport come to this.
I get it - you are no fan of the BASC deer register for reasons as yet in fact unknown as you have not explained why this register impacts you personally - I understand you have done nothing but post negative comments and raise strange concerns about it - yet now you have suddenly seemingly done a u-turn and decided to start completing the online form - but no - it as a means to an end to see fit to post the above comments - you really are getting into tinfoil hat territory - please get a sense of perspective - and I would appreciate if you would not post derogatory comments putting into question the integrity of BASC staff. Whatever troubles you about the register you are way way out of order, totally unjustified comments.I started to register as a DSC2 qualified and a long term BASC member , then I realised there is absolutely no safeguards to how the information is used . And who is it who decides whether the stalker you go with is competent? As stoker 150 stated if you have stalked for a long time the stalker you go with should be allowed to give references as to your competance and general attitude as he is the one who decides if 1 you are safe 2 if you can shoot the target at different distances prone bipod standing with sticks 3 know what deer are in season 4 that you have knowledge of bullet weights and minimum for species this is in the stalkers interest for the animals welfare I have been going to Argyle for 35 years and always take a volulntury test before heading out the stalker knows i am safe to go out at that moment in time. DSC does not always mean competent as i have heard horror stories of DSC competent (just passed) and almost kjlling the stalker as a bullet went past his leg and into the dash of his new truck the guest/ client was told not to return and never go again
So your not discussing , your telling and that is the issue here . Two ears one mouth principle would be far better .I get it - you are no fan of the BASC deer register for reasons as yet in fact unknown as you have not explained why this register impacts you personally - I understand you have done nothing but post negative comments and raise strange concerns about it - yet now you have suddenly seemingly done a u-turn and decided to start completing the online form - but no - it as a means to an end to see fit to post the above comments - you really are getting into tinfoil hat territory - please get a sense of perspective - and I would appreciate if you would not post derogatory comments putting into question the integrity of BASC staff. Yeah , basically a sporting agent on a small scale ! Always had such but once you take an organisation set up by shooting folks coming together under WAGBI to protect the future of our sport and way of life and there are further implications and risks when things branch out into acting as " A sporting agent " on the side ? That is nothing but a ticking time bomb imo! This thing seems to be blowing out of proportion. Every organisation finds benefits for it members. At work, we have benefits through a discount scheme with a specialist company.
If the deer stalking register is a success the other organisations will be doing exactly the same given time.
Of course, anyone could set up a register. I was at the shooting show 2 years ago I think and there was a bloke with a stand and he had some the exact same thing for rabbiting and foxing. I think he charged £10 a month or something I can remember. Don’t recall anyone screaming blue murder.
In fact, thinking about it, people have contacted us through our website in areas that we don’t cover, so, I went on here, found someone local and put them in touch. Done that a couple of times now. Perhaps, going by the comments here, I really shouldn’t.
