FAC - Action not cited

Just had mine come through, asked for a 22lr b/a and a 22lr semi, and FAC just states .22 rifle x2. No action stated and not even 22lr or 22rf.

Worth checking with the fld though. Somebody at my club recently had similar happen, applied for 22lr, FAC (from neighboring force) said .22rf. He thought happy days, went out and bought a WMR and a few days later armed response turned up at his house to confiscate everything as they deemed it was an unauthorised purchase.
Perfectly legal to do and massive overreaction by the police, not Devon and Cornwall again?

Is that true ?
Not to cast aspersions but I don’t believe that .

WMR is rimfire and I’ve just done the exact same thing with no issue whatsoever .

It's what I heard from the club sec who was at the time sorting out getting the fella's guns transferred from the police. Take with a pinch of salt by all means, I'll not disagree it sounds a bit farfetched. But that's what I was told occurred.

🤷‍♂️ Who knows. That's just it as I was told.

Anyhow, didn't come to hijack the thread. Just advocating caution if the details on your cert aren't as expected.

Likewise with no drama at all.
How would they cope with the Remington 597 chambered in both .22lr and .22 short?
I remember an rfd being cautious selling me my first .223 as my FAC was 5.56 so he wrote .223/5.56 on the ticket. That was years ago when Sussex was run by a rule making up idiot!

Plenty I know have 6.5 on their fac allowing them a choice of a few calibres. Thats being well phased out now though.

I think many would be apprehensive selling a 223 onto a 5.56 slot.

When I bought a 223 wylde onto a 5.56 / 223 slot I was expecting a call from the FLD and having to explain that it's essentially both at the same time.

As an rfd I can only say that the dealer lost a sale!
One of my shooting friends had a slot for a .460 muzzle loading rifle on his FAC. A local gun shop refused to sell him the.461 muzzle loader that they had in stock. My friend got onto the FEO who rang the shop and told them that it was ok to sell him the rifle. Good service Hants FLD!

Just spoken to Humberside. They say if action isn't specified then any is permitted, and likewise with caliber; if it just says .22 (or .22rf) then any .22/22rf chambering is fine - not limited to what was specifically applied for. Makes sense.

All revolvers are pistols but not all pistols are revolvers. Therefore on the absence of what has been agreed and discussed qualifying what the paper authority on the FAC says I'd say that you are permitted any type of rifle that may be lawfully owned under s1 authorisation but NOT any type of rifle that may be lawfully owned under an FAC linked to a s5 authorisation. Going forward be aware that with the exception of vermin the Wildlife and Countryside Act limits the magazine capacity of self-loading firearms to two shots. Therefore knocking off end of season cocks on 1 February with a Ruger 10/22 fitted with a thirty round "banana" magazine would be illegal.

There was a member at one club I used to belong to who purchased a .22wmr at a auction, it just said .22 rimfire on his FAC. The only problem was that he could only get expanding ammo and at that time you needed expanding ammo authorisation on your FAC which he didn't have.

However the local RFD was quite happy to sell him expanding ammunition. I often wondered what the police would say if they had become aware of that.:-|
