.30-06 and twist rate

I shoot 165grn 30-06 Sellior & Bellot copper rounds through a 21 inch browning xbolt with 1:10 twist. It is a very accurate combo at normal stalking ranges. Everything I have shot has been very dead, from red stag to CWD and munty. The longest runner was about 50yds. Zeroed an inch high at 100m, it has been point and shoot to 225m (so far). Happy days!

Thanks for that - gets me further down the rabbit hole and has me sweating about my C Grade O-Level maths....however I get the idea! Now the other factor is whether 150g or 180g lead free open up enough at the slower speeds, vs 130g.....!
I have 1/11 30-06 and use 150g ttsx and drive at 3000fps from the muzzle. I dont have any issues with expansion. I have had 2 bizarre results from a sample of around 80 animals. One a week or so ago at 250m on a red calf that demolished front shoulder and exited bullet out of the front. Another on a fallow pricket at 80m that for some unknown reason bullet tracked down rib and exiting out of chest directly below animal, causing lots of lung trauma on route. Both animals recovered within about 50m dead.

Generally everything from foxes to large fallow bucks drop on the spot or very close to with correct shot placement. Ranging from closest fallow of 50m to the furthest being a chinese at 260m.

Thanks #Andrewslater I thinks that’s where I go if it works. Mid-weight bullet and 250m good enough for me…the 2 anomalies sound just that from bone strike…80m though being a bit short. Rather dead than running.

130gr TTSX at circa 3100 fps works very well for me at normal stalking ranges on all deer, including roe

I have a semi-custon 30-06 with a 1-in-10, 27.5" barrel which drives 165 grain Sellier & Bellot TXRG's at close to 3000fps
No problems at all with either accuracy or expansion, even on the small stuff
I have also used 180grain Peregine VLR4 in homeloads, again without any performance isssues
