British Shooting Show 2024

Hi All,

I’m happy to see the enthusiasm and a great response for the Pulsar Service & Support Centre at the upcoming Great British Shooting Show, the team are all keen to showcase this service, so I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to let you know a little more on what we are able to offer at the show.

Our team of technicians will be on stand E1 from 09:00 to 15:00 offering complimentary minor repairs, these include cosmetic fixes such as replacement eye cups and lens covers, or simply just a professional clean if you think your device could do with a spruce up or just a general once over to make sure it’s ready for your next outing.
Not wanting to spend over £100 on road fuel, and entry fee, to get a replacement lens cover and eye cup, the problem I have is than when I recalibrate manually (M), I get a second image on the screen in negative. It doesn't happen when I press the calibrate button when in H or A. Is this something that can be fixed on the day?
Asking this way so as to possibly help others with same problem.

Only thing I enjoy about these shows is the bingo counting how many bellends turn up in cammo or sweating about in tweed. And trying to tick off my bingo, for a blonde girl in dubarry AND schoffel AND AND a hat with a pheasant feather!! Ding ding ding we have a winner!!
Priceless

If anyone’s interested Westley Richards are there and are looking for apprentices which lets me out as they said the only position available for me was sweeping up the car park, l don’t often go as far as Birmingham to get insulated, if I’m in the house is usually enough.

Hi JTO,

Thanks for your comment,

I understand why you wouldn’t want to spend that cost just to get to the show, but for those that are / were already planning to head to the show, it’s a good opportunity for those to bring their unit along to save sending it off for a few days.

Regarding your issue in which you are seeing a second image when you calibrate:

In the Pulsar thermal imagers, there are 3 types of Calibration modes: Automatic (A), Semi Auto (SA), and Manual (M).

The reason you are seeing that second image in Manual mode is due to the fact that in Manual calibration you tell the unit when it needs to calibrate, but in (M) the internal shutter (the clicking noise you hear) doesn’t shut, so you are essentially calibrating against the image you are looking at. That is why it looks like you are getting an overlaid image. When using your device in manual mode, every time you need to calibrate you have to shut the lens cap before starting calibration.

However, in Automatic (A) mode the unit/software algorithms will decide when the device needs to calibrate, and the internal shutter will shut (again, this is the clicking noise you will hear). The image will freeze for a second or two and then the image will come back after it has been refreshed.

Then you have Semi-Auto Mode (SA). In this mode the unit won’t calibrate itself, it will only calibrate when you tell the device to do so; so, as the image clarity deteriorates you tell the unit to calibrate. However, when you tell the unit to refresh, it will do the same as if it was in (A) mode — the shutter will come down over the sensor and the screen will freeze for a split second.

Hopefully that has helped clear things up. I have attached a link to one of video showing you the different calibration modes at the bottom of this reply.

You are more than welcome to give us a call in the office on 01789 264100 and either myself or one of the team can talk you through this further.

Thanks,
TJ Tom

Great! If I hold my hand over the lens while pressing the calibrate button, no problem, but I don't remember ever having to close the lens cap, when I had one, previously.

I have M, H and A calibrate settings, it's an HD50S.
Hope this has helped any others with similar problems.
I have a dim annular ring in the centre of the screen sometimes, but I can live with that.

I am making the trip up for the first time this year. Hoping I can see some kit that my local shops don't carry. Specifically hoping to see some of the newer Bergara's in the flesh. Train tickets were £130 return so will be driving and sharing a lift up with some buddies.

I’m going. I’ll be the one with the wistful expression and restless hands, reaching for the unobtainable and being given short shrift on the Blaser stand.

To use Manual recalibration you need to close the lens cap otherwise "ghosting," occurs.
Avoid this by using semi auto calibration.

Never used to happen!
I'm only going by my experience with my Helion & Thermion.
They gave a choice of A-auto, S or SA-semi auto ( which I would use by pressing the power/on/off button briefly) or M-manual which required the lens cap to be closed because the internal shutter did not operate in this mode.
I inadvertently switched to Manual mode once without realising, thought my unit had developed a fault & contacted Thomas Jack's who kindly explained the Manual procedure ( it was also in the online instruction manual that I'd failed to read fully 🙄) and sorted immediately.
This is what I'd assumed you'd done.
Cheers
Mike

I always had 'M' selected so that there was no unexpected sound when a fox was closeby when 'A' was selected. Now I have to select 'A' and risk it.
