Bergara Wilderness B14

Just got back from working at the BSS and thought I would check out some new rifles.
Lots of good kit around the £800 to £1500 mark.

One rifle that really stood out was the Bergara wilderness thumb-hole.

The ergonomics on the thumb hole were great and nice cerakote flutted barrel.

Looking for feed back on Bergara as a brand and reliability. I know its not a TIKA or Sako but got to be worth a shout in 30.06.

Funnily I looked at this rifle,(online) yesterday. Will be interested to see what follows. My only reservation is that if you go tikka, it’s tried and trusted with millions of aftermarket parts to custom as you desire. Does bergara have this?

Will keep an eye on this.
 
Nice rifles only thing I found out was the pic rail had zero lock tight and it came lose after a few rounds and this has happened to others aswell and the bolt f/pin assy was one full tune undone no other problems it shot very well so did the other builds with there barrels.
 
I have 3 bergara’s and they have been great, one being a hmr wilderness in 6.5 creedmoor and it’s superbly accurate, I dropped it into an after market grs stock and it’s cracking, the extractor broke on my 22-250 due to bad brass and bergara sent me one which arrived the next day for free, can’t recommend them enough.

Have to say im really pleased with what I saw and the carbon barrel version was great.
 
I think they're great gun for the money and probably a bit of a danger to tikka. Only problem I had with them was there seems to be a sort of sharp hot spot on the thumb hole that rubs the joint of my thumb where it goes into my hand. I've handled 5 or 6 of them at this stage and they all have it. Not knocking the gun, probably just the way my hand sits in it.

I know a lad who moved from a Howa1500 to the B14 thumbhole and he loves it
 
I was looking at the wilderness thumbhole but it didn't have the integral bedding block which is what i was after. I ended up going with the wilderness terrain and I have to say, it's a cracking rifle. Trigger was good out of the box, accurate as anything with factory ammo (think quarter inch at 100, lucky? Probably.)

All in, can't knock it and whereas with a howa you'd stick a decent stock or chassis on, you don't need to with that.

I have a wilderness terrain, love it to bits, mine is identical so mustn’t be just luck

Must say I have never heard of Tikka having soft steel in their barrels.

I have heard of rust issues on Bergara though.

It was a 22-250 and a 270 both chambers rusted up after 300 rounds to the point there there was a stiff bolt close and speckling on the brass and both guns were cleaned regularly. I have heard the stainless ones and new cerakoted ones are a lot better tho
 
I've just ordered a new B14 Stoke from Jackal Firearms to drop into a lightweight chassis for Foxing. Alot of good things said about the B14s because of their compatibility with Rem parts. I nearly bought the Wilderness Siera instead but figured the cheaper Stoke would be the better option for dropping into a chassis.

I love the Wilderness Series paint schemes. Always look real smart I think.

Think Jackal are up your way, give them a shout.
 
i have the standard hmr 22-250 that i use for foxing and deer contracting, i push 69gr tmk's through it and its just a hammer. head shot a fox at 420m with it last night, cant believe hoe accurate it is.
 
At the very least, QC seems to be an issue.

I know a few folks had them and can’t get them to group at all. Others are apparently laser accurate. Some inconsistencies in materials used seemingly, I have spoken to 2 custom rifle builders who were scathing about the quality of steel.

This was in fairness a while ago, maybe things have changed. Certainly a lot on here rate them. I would still go tikka if it were my cash-the barreled actions are bomb proof and well, well proven.
 
Purchased the super basic b14 varmint in 6.5 creedmoor and dropped it into a chassis for plinking. sub 500 quid for a brand new barreled action at the time seemed a good buy.

Well I took it to my gunsmith and he looked inside and offered me scrap price for the rifle because the chamber was so badly corroded.
