Reming sling stud on tikka super varmint

I’ve got a tikka t3x super varmit in .223.
Been trying to remove sling stud to fit Spartan bipod adapter but failed miserably, it just keeps turning. Tried to remove the forearm by removing the screws but that stays in place and when I try and prise it off makes a horrible cracking noise.
Any one had any luck in remove either the stud or complete fore end?
Thanks

You cannot remove the fore end. You have to remove the barreled action from the stock in total. But that should be obvious as it is a one-piece stock.

You haven’t missed any of the flush fit screws? Do you have a picture of the fore end with the barrel and action removed.

That’s what I had in mind to do next, remove the action from stock and see if there’s any thing fixed from the inside. I didn’t think I’d have to do that with what’s meant to be a quick interchangeable piece.

The plastic Tikka stocks use a pressed in screw nut on the back of the stock. If you've over tightened the sling stud previously or had a bit of corrosion that will make it turn with the std as you truly to remove it.

You'll need to take the whole action out to get to the pressed in nut and try to grip it with some pliers.

I have the normal Varmint model but I'd guess they use the same sling stud anchorage. Take out the barreled action then you will have access to the back of the anchor points. Remove the setscrew nearest the trigger guard. From what you are saying it sounds like the sling stud insert has become loose and is spinning so nip this with a pair of grips while you back out the sling stud.

Assuming you now have these fixings off the stock? The accessory forend grip has a slight taper to it and with something soft, needs a gentle tap away from the trigger guard to make it come away easier from the main forend. I does make a bit of a din though when being removed.

Back to the sling stud. I'm not sure if the captive threaded insert is either moulded in during manufacture or has splines and is pushed in afterwards. You could attempt to repair the anchor arrangement or simply attach the Spartan adaptor by reversing the the sling stud removal scenario, that's to say using a pair of grips on the threaded insert while you tighten the Spartan screw. Either way it came be overcome I reckon.

Just a thought - if it's not too late. The Tikka thread may be metric, the Remy Imperial (or whatever they use over the pond).

It’s the original stud I can’t remove, the whole thing just turns in the stock. Thanks for replying

Yes. I had to remove the barrel from the stock and hold the nut with a long nose pliers. Easy enough to do, just had to check zero afterwards. All good
I’m just about to do this myself so appreciate the info!
