Help! Sling Stud - replacing Spartan adapter

Hi all,

Apologies if this has been covered before. I'm sure i'm being an idiot but perhaps someone can advise.

I've recently bought a Tikka T3x Lite and the gun came fitted with a Spartan Classic rifle adapter.

I already have a Harris bipod- the type that clamps onto a sling stud and want to use this.

I've removed the Spartan Adapter and tried to install what I thought was the right M5 sling swivel stud- but the threads are completely different to the spartan bolt- it seems the spartan fitting needs more / tighter threads...

Is there a special thread that Spartan use and does anyone know if I can get hold of a sling stud that will fit the spartan receiver/nut.

The one that doesn't fit was bought in a rush on amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08GPLWH29?ref_=pe_27063361_487360311_302_E_DDE_dt_1

Any advice gratefully received
Many thanks, Guy

When you do this take care that the screw doesn‘t protrude more than necessary and doesn‘t touch the barrel even if you squeeze the fore end against the barrel. Be prepared that you may have to shorten the screw.

Also, make sure the stud is the US-type. 8mm wide with a 3mm hole. This is what Harris bipods require. They won‘t go on European 6mm wide studs.

Thank you so much for your advice Steff- very much appreciated and noted!

When you have the right fit and you’re happy the end of the screw doesn’t touch the barrel - even under pressure (this is important). You would be well advised to apply some threadlocker on the metal - metal screw interface. There can be a lot of stress on the sling swivel when using a Harris, especially if you do a lot of range work and tend to push the rifle forward for a steady firing position. I’ve done this on both of my rifles. Neither now moves.

After years of using both spartan and harris bipods, I have now moved over solely to spartan. I really like the gunsmith adapters that you can install flush to the stock. Epoxyed in, they don't shift and you can happily shoot the rifle from sticks without having a chunk of metal attached to the end.

As Koenig says above, the harris can put a lot of strain on the swivel studs and then you can also have the sling attached to it as well which probably doesn't help.

I recently installed a standard swivel stud to my nephews PCP air rifle so he could use my old bipod and slings and despite using the correct sized drill bit, a decent stud and the wood seeming to be solid, it was working loose when clamping the Harris down on to it. I ended up putting some long cure epoxy in there. It no longer shifts now. Could help you out but would be permanent.
