Game dealer near Ashford

Hi all,

Does anyone know of a good game dealer near Ashford in Kent?

Bit of a long story, but my wife's uncle owns a bit of mixed woodland near to Ashford and has a large resident population of fallow and has asked me to go and sort some of them out for him.

The guys who are currently stalking it have only taken 6 off since august and he is trying to re- populate the area with native broadleaf trees, which are providing a pretty tasty snacking area for the deer. He has sent me trail cam footage of a herd in excess of 40+ and is very keen to get the numbers right down.

As I live in Hampshire I would be like to get them dropped off locally to the ground as I don't have a chilled vehicle available to move them back to my usual dealer/s here?

Any good suggestions / ones to avoid?

I’m afraid you’re not going to like the answer to this as it’s probably a contributing factor to the low number taken by the resident stalker.

Possibly a more realistic approach is to have the landowner dig a large pit for the carcasses if you can’t take them back to Hampshire.

Ashford to Winchester is less than 3 hours, I think? Why not just take them back to your usual dealer?
They'll travel OK in a plasterers bath with some ice packs or frozen water bottles in with them and a cover over.

I agree but lots of folks just waiting for a chance .
Yes he needs a trustworthy stalker and not a back stabber and some one reliable

There is a game dealer in Waldron, East Sussex so about half way. May be worth considering if you plan to come back directly after shooting.

I think Willowbank is in that area. Realistically you need to be no more than an hour away from a chiller and of course handing large number on your own could be an issue. There is a dealer in Marden who might take some carcasses. (Hedgerow Game)

I live about 30 minutes from Ashford. There are no game dealers nearby. However there are two near Canterbury, but whether they will take any carcasses I have no idea. Drop me a PM and I can try and find their details for you.

I’ve had no problem with Turners @ littlebourne for 1-3 fallow at a time
I can pm you their number if it helps, probably 30 mins drive
Cheers
Phil

If they’re gralloched and in a trailer that will be fine at this time of year on a two hour journey home. It’s only 7 degrees tonight. A bit of wind chill will allow them to cool just fine.

Neither of the above appear interested in taking in-the-fur beasts from the occasional deerstalker or in any meaningful number. Their business model is selling processed meats direct to the Public and Trade.

By all means have a chat with them and prove me wrong.

Don’t some dealers pick up carcasses?
Whatever happened to Sam Farrow?
Anyway….
I’d be looking for someone in the area who has a large walk in chiller and make them an offer of some sort to use their facilities to chill the carcasses down until the journey home.
A VERY good insulated box can be easily made from 100mm+ polyisocyanurate boards and a bit of nous.
I have transported carcasses for 8hr drive in summer, in an insulated box and they are practically the same temp when I get home.
