Simple spotter?

Is there a thermal spotter greater than 25 mm without the record or photograph facility. A simple menu?
Something you err just spot with but with a good screen and resolution.
Minus the trinkets and doesn't involve a remortgage!

There's a Pulsar XQ38 in the classifieds at the right money, might even be got for less. I used one for 3 years and it's a cracking little thermal.

Question has been forwarded a good few times on here, I always wanted just white hot, no record, no wi fi etc etc.
I use white hot all the time. Only need a clearer image once looking at long distances. I've missed the odd fox having a nap thinking it was just another hare....

I second that Smelly - as long as it also has only one button and defo doesn’t record…..

In an ideal world but going to struggle to get something without "bells and whistles". Even record and picture capture are standard features on everything these days.

You wouldn't get all those meaningless white and black blurred pictures that have you up all night trying to remember what the **** that was about.

Good morning SD, I have noticed that you have the same thermal as my previous one, Guied nano . I now have the Hicmicro lynx 2.0 25mm , after selling the Guied I didn’t have to find the full £1100 for the lynx which was great, you can record with this if you wish but I am not into all that and it’s only 1 button that doesn’t get in the way. I was blown away when I took it out for the first time and after 4 weeks of use I am still very impressed. I do occasionally take people out stalking and foxin who use other brands, better on paper, and they have been very impressed with the lynx . So if you are looking and don’t wish to spend a small fortune , have a look at the lynx. It’s also the same shape and has the same layout as the Guied .😀👍🏻

I have an old Pulsar Axion. Bought it new about four years ago.
Four buttons which do all sorts of fantastic things if I ever have the wish.
But why would I ever get the wish?
It is a spotter and I need it to spot.
It is always on white hot.
I only ever use the on/off button and the focus ring.
Cant get much more simple than that but I had to purchase all the bells and whistles that I don't need.
My Pard DS35-70 digital scope is much the same but it is very easy to operate - Even for an old whatsit like me.
Don't think any manufacture does anything 'simple' these days.

I totally agree with Smellydog. Most of the thermal and night stuff is for 12 year old nerds with nimble fingers who play "minecraft". They are not for 70 year old men with very little technology, gnarled hands, gloves, and poor eyesight. It should have a large "on" and an "off" button, and work. It does not need anything else. Then it needs to be priced at less than a semi-detached house !

Hello mate, my Guide is the 25. I tried a nano once...bit limited to be honest.

XQ38 bomb proof, they have been overtaken by newer and more expensive models with endless features ( Most unused!) but as a decent spotter they take some beating and are a good buy second hand. I sold mine to a mate when I upgraded to an Axion 2 but it’s still going strong

Them 2nd hand helions would be perfect . I've one of the original ones and with the upgrade it transformed performance. I am however looking to upgrade with it being nearly 10 years old

Agree entirely. I have a Quantum XQ38 same internals as the Helion. So simple to use great battery pack and runs on rechargeable AA batteries. 90% on white hot. Nigh on 7 years faultless service. Rarely available on SH market.

Complain all you want, but no-one is going to make a thermal without all the "toys" just because you and a few old luddites don't want them :)
These "toys" cost virtually nothing to incorporate into a spotter and make them sellable to the majority of people who find them useful and increase their enjoyment of using the spotter
You have thre choices:
a. Don't buy a thermal spotter
b. Buy a thermal spotter and learn how to use the feckin thing :)
c. Buy a spotter, don't learn how to use it and then come on here and complain about it :banghead:

Cheers
