Simple spotter?

c. Buy a spotter, don't learn how to use it and then come on here and complain about it :banghead:
I don’t think he was complaining, he wants to know if there’s a decent enough spotter that doesn’t have all the bells & whistles for a reasonable price. I don’t use all of the functions on my spotter but I still had to pay for them, likewise most other tech’ these days.

I may be parting with my XQ38 has two DNV batteries with chargers had it from new been faultless ,reason for sale looking for a spotter with a range finder

Complain all you want, but no-one is going to make a thermal without all the "toys" just because you and a few old luddites don't want them :)
These "toys" cost virtually nothing to incorporate into a spotter and make them sellable to the majority of people who find them useful and increase their enjoyment of using the spotter
You have thre choices:
a. Don't buy a thermal spotter
b. Buy a thermal spotter and learn how to use the feckin thing :)

So OK clever clogs - somewhere prominent, like really prominent, probably in the middle of the myriad of buttons, each of which in turn leads to multiple choice submenus offering functions in a variety of modes and colours, none of which the average chap may ever need, why can’t we have a BIG RED BUTTON sitting two inches above the others which overides all those functions and simply turns it on and off? Huh?
The deluxe model would of course have a second largish button for the record function - which I will still not find when I need it…

Every thermal I've ever seen or used has an on/off button - just because it might not be big and red doesn't make it a bad product :)
When the thermal is off, you press the button and it switches on, and when the thermal is on, you press it and it switches off - what less do you want :)

Cheers

The big red button and one that glows in the dark - like really, really brightly.
Next question?

Who's complaining?
If I didn't know you better I'd of been tempted to call you a cock how you replied but nevermind, we all have issues.....

I've had a pulsar xm30 for about 4 years. Constantly get the itch to up grade it. When I do I leave it at home and head out with the lamp. Yes, I could get a better spotter, but I've already got the massive gains over a lamp. Hope that makes sense? And yes I'm a commited ludite.

Is there a thermal spotter greater than 25 mm without the record or photograph facility. A simple menu?
Something you err just spot with but with a good screen and resolution.
Minus the trinkets and doesn't involve a remortgage!

ATN gave us a spotter for a competition and my pal won it - He thinks its ace
Its an ATN OTS XLT 160 2-8 X

Hi,
Still using an 8? Year old Pul. 23.
Not the best image but over time you get to interpret what you’re seeing and you’re not tempted to nature watch when you should be busy looking for Charlie.
I suppose, most people with a modern spotter would deem mine broken if they looked through it.
Was sure I was watching Charlie approach (Less than 50 yds) one night last week…. Switched to Zulus for shot and it was a large black n white cat in the sight.

Pulsar XM30 Key can be had for about £600 2nd hand. Pretty easy to set up, lasts 4-5h on a battery, and just need to switch on and off. Plenty powerful enough for me - can spot roe out to 500m or so - just a speck at that distance but all that's needed.

I don't if I'm on the same hymn sheet but mine has a big bright green indicator light, like I need to tell the whole world I'm there bright.

I covered mine in black tape and added a pin prick hole so I know when I can let go off the start up button.

Ya get much more light on your face when putting it to your eye.

I upgraded to a Axion Key, more compact, better image and battery life.

It's got WiFi, recording etc, since getting it set up, I use the on/off button and the one to change the zoom, they do everything I need.
