"importing" SG chokes from Beretta 10% off today (Italy) - import licenses/controls?

Hi Directory Members,

I was tempted by today's Beretta eStore promo email for 10% off 2+ chokes (code "CHOKE10")...I'm the odd one out on my regular squad with flush, non-extended chokes and I want to be in the gang 🙃. I draw the line at ported chokes however.

Fast-forward 4 hrs, I get a call from DHL UK asking me to confirm if these are licensable firearm components. I said no and emailed in writing back as such. I just wanted to check with other members if that's the case...of course I have a copy of my licenses if DHL want, but seems a bit OTT to me.

Appreciate the routine legal caveats apply (do your own research etc) when asking a forum, but wanted to pressure-test. Thanks in advance and hopefully of future help to other forum members (I couldn't find a thread myself) for any info shared.

Whenever I’ve bought from Beretta direct I’ve had to do the same thing.

I’ve bought non licensed parts or bits and had the same phone call. Thought it was settled. But when items get into the U.K. still had contact from them asking for license details. Even when quoting law, showing them invoicing showing them they are not such there position was firm. They wouldn’t release the goods for delivery until license details were sent over. Stating doesn’t matter if they do not, the consignment code they come over states they are.

Anyway. I haven’t got any issue sending my details, always do because I want my items as ordered. But I guess the employees are not legal savvy and just want to err on the side of caution.

I bought 2 washers and some glasses from Estore, got caught as a firearms part and then import duty, a very expensive lesson

Oh no! I bought some clothing from them already (at mega discount compared to their store in Piccadilly) without issue and was hoping the same for this chokes...let's see...

Hi all, providing a quick update in case anyone finds it helpful in the future.

Following a few to and fro emails with DHL clarifying and reconfirming that these are accessories to a firearm, I finally had the two chokes delivered today without the need for additional duties or equivalent.

It took an age to arrive, but seems most of this was once it arrived in the UK with DHL customs, plus this was ordered during Easter. Package arrived completely battered from the border force inspection, but safe and sound.

Looking forward to improving my clay scores by at least 50% now I have extended chokes like all the others...🤐

Welcome to post Brexit world. In the past they would have just been sent within the single market.

I do find it rather odd that whilst most on SD seemed in favour of Brexit, they now all moan at all the additional costs, embuggerance and time taken.

I got a set of 5 Beretta extended mobil chokes plus case from a Swedish dealer for €110 delivered.
I used to be able to buy from the Uk and it was worth doing but not anymore, not unless I can nip up to NI and buy across the counter.

Are remoaners ever going to accept democracy, or will will they just carry on behaving like Trump?

No we won’t. We might accept the withdrawal from the EU, but we won’t accept the loss of the freedoms to travel, work and do business right across Europe with no paperwork or permissions required.

The bit we really do like is that really sticks in the throat of the Brexiteers is that we are unable to go and live in Europe.

As for comparisons to Trump - well he is a crook. And wasn’t it the Brexit side the ones that plead guilty and paid fines for election manipulation and interference? A bit like Trump then.

Fined for poor paperwork, nothing to do with messages. Of course, we all remember Project Fear, funded with taxpayers' money.

But if you want to believe the referendum was stolen, then fine: you really are behaving like Trump.
