Well apparently it's easier to get a gun licence these days than a fishing permit, Good old BBC journalism again, Just for the record I never searched for this it popped up on a page whilst I was searching the internet for something else shooting related.
Apologies if it's been covered

Drivel

No, it's not drivel, apart from the sensation grabbing headline that was a misquote from something the woman said. (Omission of the word "probably").

I don't think any of us could find fault in her closing comments:

"I don't like guns, but I've never tried to stop anybody getting guns.
"I just want them to fall into the right hands of people that need them for legitimate reasons.
"And so the changes I would like to see made, I don't think should really impact on anybody who’s a responsible gun owner".

The omission of the word probably does not make any significant difference to what she said.

I can remember the visit from the REO (Rods Enquiry Officer) and that my request to acquire two piece ten foot beachcaster was refused as it was too long to fit in my four foot tall rod cabinet. I had to make do with a four piece travel beachcaster rod instead. And then eyebrows were raised when I asked for a second multiplier reel to go with it as they said that I already got one that was the same.

Did they also visit the river/lake and then let you know which size rod/reel were acceptable

I can buy a 12-month “Gun licence” online, immediately and with no questions, no GP check, no security visit, no safe requirement etc., and all for just £35.80?

Why has no-one told me this before?

Let's go back to the ild gun licenses purchased at the post office.

Whoops that won't work the PO IT system might not record it accurately.
Ah. A lot of misunderstanding about the Post Office Gun Licence. It wasn't a control measure as it, mostly, applied to shotguns which at that time were not subject to control. That was Labour and Roy Jenkins that imposed controls on shotguns. The old Gun Licence was a revenue measure just the same, perhaps, as a radio licence. If your shotgun remained on your property described as your "curtilage" a Gun Licence wasn't needed. It was only if you used it away from there that it had to be purchased.

"I think a lot of people don’t know how easy it is to get one of these deadly weapons"...

Clearly never tried to get a firearms license herself then?

"...yet you can go out and wipe your whole family out in seconds" - Potentially possible, yes, so long as you take into account the 2 year wait for your application to be granted!

If that was your desire at the outset, you would pick up a black market firearm from the back of a van down a side street in any major city of your choice. I appreciate that this as a way for her to cope with the anger, grief and frustration that have resulted from this tragic event, but doing a bit of basic research first might have been a good start. As she says, the man lied repeatedly on his application, which implies that he wasn't suitable in the first place. Why then go off on a tirade to penalise those that have managed to tick all the boxes correctly? The most rigid and robust system in the world won't be able to cope with the odd individual who snaps.

That is the single most unresearched headline ever from the BBC ( bias broadcasting club) why we give them any funding at all from the public purse i have not the foggiest .

Like the dog licence or the game licence.
