DIY Leather Knife Sheaths

As mentioned before, the only issues with wooden handles and leather sheaths are that they fail on the hygiene front, if your passing on carcasses to the AGHE and need to register as a food business these won't pass muster. However, if you just use a knife a lot because you also spend a lot of time outdoors doing outdoor things, a leather sheath like this does help transform a boring, bog-standard Mora into a good looking thing.

Lovely job
I’m about to embark on starting out working some leather, the work you’ve done fills me with enthusiasm, if In time I could get halfway to your skill I will be delighted, thanks for sharing. Top job

Wow, was this nearly 5yrs ago? Hateful things to make  , probably why I have put it out my mind so I am no longer haunted by the issues of keeping heavy leather "closed" whilst trying to line up stitching holes.

Good luck with your work. Here are a couple of other efforts to help keep your mind positive when the inevitable frustrations arise.

And a bit of breakdown to show some of the stages involved in a larger knife sheath. This one was more enjoyable as the design is easier to execute than folding over very firm handled leather.

Thank you
I’ll keep this pics for guidance if ok

My main aim to starting is to have a good old slash up learning out cut straight, curves and bevelling etc
Starters is make some simple pull type top in thin leather/ suede type. 6 x ammo in a rustle free bag to get into that side

A leather sheath for cutting and stitching

My main event is to make a small thinish boxy type Ruck sack purely with as use just for gralloching kit with a food grade external 3-4 holder knife/breast saw QD attachment to aid cleaning and ease of access with a roll top to seal internals got it drawn up in my head

Next important part is leather thickness and type

What to use for hard external protection and waterproofing
What Leather for roll top and internal pockets or external flip over to seal that will need a turn down rib as well to seal

If anyone can put any recommendations in type to use and thickness, it’s a long term project so I’ll be looking to get it done in steps as I learn how to get proficient by doing little projects but that is my primary goal over time

Been meaning to do this for a while as I enjoy leatherwork, now to do it properly 🤣🤣 can’t wait 👍
