Barrel wear.

As a barrel wears, do you think a hand load that was shooting honest, single holes at 100y will open up? Everything else is the same, scope, moderator etc.
The rifle is an R8 in 22/250 that I've had for about ten years, I've no idea of the round count but, it's my go-to rifle and always first out of the cabinet. I had it out last week and tried a few shots on a target, after missing an easy buck, zero had moved about an inch high and the group was 1" to 1.5". I've since given it a good clean but have not shot it since. The loads were all made at the same time so, the same brass, primers, bullets and powder. I've got a few hundred knocked up. I suppose I'll find out if the cleaning has brought it back on song. Just to add, the barrel isn't pampered with a frequent cleaning regime. What do you think?

Just an observation from an outsider.
I have read that Blasers are more prone to rust than others, am I right?
Perhaps a soft mop and bore scope might show up something.

The crown is mint. And as for rust, I've got three barrels and none have ever shown signs of it.

I'll report back when I next shoot it.

If the cleaning doesn't improve things after a could of fouling shots, it would be worth checking the scope and mounts, etc. Could you have knocked the scope at all? Or have any of the action, or mounting screws backed off perhaps?

Ok, dare I say it!? It’s a Blaser 🥴 The Z8 that’s on it is swapped with a thermal regular as clockwork and zero has never budged. It’s more the group opening up that’s got to me. Hopefully it’s just telling me it wanted a good clean 🤞

Ah. Not familiar with them, so missed that sorry. Hopefully just a good clean needed then

Do you have access to a bore scope?

Might be worth a trip to a gunsmith for a look.

I was at Ivythorn Sporting over the weekend and those guys showed me some horrendous barrel wear .

Not saying that this is your problem but a bore scope could give you a bit of a steer.

I have the idea that very possibly the stock absorbed moisture, warped a bit hence point of impact shift. Shooter error possibly.

Nope - from my experience & I've had my K95 for 21years no sign of rust anywhere & it's been out in all weathers - but I guess it's down to one's cleaning/care regime

Get some jb and give it a proper scrub, I used to think i cleaned my barrels well until i bought a bore scope.
No barrel goes from one hole to inch an a half overnight! 10years + whatever in 22-250 is probably alot of rounds!
Dont worry though because few things are more exciting than a new barrel 😁

If it has a high round count, its possibly throat erosion, you may extend the life of it by not seating the bullet as deep. Once its settled after a deep clean, start load development again.

That's more like what I should have asked in the first place.

See how it shoots after the clean and settled down. Could be a busy time for the bullet puller.

Probably not possible with a blaser, and not even sure if its cost effective on a standard barrel, someone like @Ronin will answer better, I've heard of taking the barrel off, taking of X amount at the chamber end, re chamber and rethread and fir the barrel, effectively chasing the rifling, but as I said probably not an option with blaser

Its to buy a new barrel no gunsmith are needed. But one moa groups are ok to me I have other things to spend money on.
