David’s JAK (Just a knife)

Four of us in Africa with the damned thing.

Almost ruined the entire trip.

"Where's JAK?"

"I thought you had him!"

"F**k no. I gave him to you?"

"Well I last saw him yesterday in the Toyota..."

"Didn't I see you in the f'ing pool with him?"...

"Maybe"....

Great to read he is in my favourite part of Scotland.

Just don't f'ing lose him.

Someone will.

Just don't let that 'someone' be you.:)
Don't !!!

That has been my biggest worry.

I'm normally ok and always keep hold of my knives but last year I lost 2 Mora's (not expensive I know but have had them for years) out with guests on the stags. I've never had such a uphill down hill up and down the peat hag day ever.

Losing something of your own is one thing but someone else's possession is a chapter I do not want to be part of. lol

I think it's probably reached the point where the book is now more important than the knife, in terms of the memories and the messages it holds.
Might be worth someone scanning all the pages at this stage, just so's there's a backup in case of disaster?

The Highlands and Islands are littered with my lost kit.

No drama. It is nothing . A knife, is a knife, is a knife.

Holds true, only if it is your knife. This was not my knife. It was someone else's knife, and it came with a story. A proper story.

Yeah. No ordinary f'ing knife.

@VSS makes an excellent point.

JAK will get lost. It is his destiny.

If we (the Royal we), could save the story, they I would call it good.

Someone with more IT skills than me (i.e. everyone) needs to start making copies of the book.

I have seen that book. I have held it in my hands. I have read the stories. I have seen the beautiful artwork, that some have etched into its pages.

It has become a real thing of beauty, a demonstrable, tangible thing - that shines a light on the love of a man for his mate.

For the love of God, someone 'back it up' . For the love of God.

Incidentally, I would have liked to have inserted a photo in the book, but at the time I was having some IT problems and couldn't download and print. Perhaps I could send one on to be slipped in between the pages somewhere?

I wonder if BDS should have the knife. The book and lots of the thread stories with a 2 min vid on the history from JG on the Game Fair stand end of month. A sort of stand with a few display stands Also see if someone like Rigby would do something re book backup and a final edition for sale aka the buffalo thing they do?

what is BDS?
John. Do you know who makes the knife.
No and its been just under three years and 37 pages of posts since I ripped a rabbit with JAK, well after that I did wash and remember (?) some sort of mark. I doubt if the maker is of any importance lol, with enough in the kitty to sponsor that is.
Ask the current knife steward to have a look...tattie over to you.
I have had another thought, wild as usual, perhaps a resident cutler could make a replica that does the travelling or even be auctioned off ...now where do the proceeds go? Geez that alone will be cause of 90 pages ha ha ha.

and it may look like "just a knife' with its fake stag antler handle.....well it's not such a thing at all.
But we users know that its definitely not just a knife now.

I will confer with KimH and see what sort of penalty may apply in the event of any user losing JAK...cat`o nine?

Now there are a few on here that have read my post re the heading of Just A Knife and today SD member kimh has suggested a wonderful idea for "the knife" I personally think that it is brilliant.
Part of his email to me below in bold....

Qu: Re: your thread, just a thought, send me your mate's knife (your knife), I'll shoot three rabbits, and send it on to the next shooter, let your mate watch his knife travel the world? Eq:

There ya go and I`m sure that he will be chuffed to the moon and back to hear of its travels, first stop from Australia is Gloucestershire. Not even i know where it will head from there.

As above when the knife arrives in your care, shoot three rabbits (head shots) and lay them out with the knife as in the pic and send it on.

kimh I don`t know you other from the SD but you have a weeks sambar hunting as my guest.

3rd anniversary soon
