H4895 Replacement N140?

As you all are aware Hodgson Powders are nigh on impossible to get, for longer than I can remember I have been using a Blaser Pro Success, 22" 1:11? Twist 308W Lapua Cases, Load was Nosler 150Gr Ballistic Tip Spitzer (P/N 30150) with H4895, 45.4 Gr, 2.800OAL, MV is in the region of 2860fps and accurate enough for my needs.

Unfortunately Im down to my last few grains of H4895 but do have lots of N140 left over from other loads, Im hoping to make use of the N140 and Im ready to start working through some loads.

Im planning on starting at 42.5gr in 0.2gr increments upto a max of 46.3 was wondering if this is worth trying and if anyone has run this combination of bullet and powder through the QL software?

The Vihtavuori software doesnt list the Ballistic Tip Bullet?

Take a look at the Nosler website. N140 is apparently the most accurate powder for that particular bullet.

N133 or RS40 a better fit. N140 won't all burn, so not as efficient - and dirty....

N140 will burn fine.

Vihtavuori does list 150gr Accubond, MIN=42.3gr MAX=45.7gr N140, I'd use larger than 0.2gr increment in initial load development.

I used to use 150gr Nosler BTs in a 308 with 46 gr n140 and they were excellent on foxes, but too explosive other than head shots on deer in my opinion.
I started at 44gr. in a Remington.

Yeah looked at that seems that 42.3 is the most accurate and is 2782 fps

For best part of 25 years until last year when I swapped to 150gn GameKing because I couldn't source them, the 150gn Nosler BTs were the only bullet I've ever used in my 308 for deer and they have always sat on a case full of N140. You'll be fine with it - 43.8gn from memory, no idea how fast but thousands of deer haven't complained!

Having seen the difference in case capacity eg Samson v Norma, I think it is advisable to quote which cases are used when quoting powder loads. @Laurie
