Homemade sausage casings?

Curious if anyone has made their own casings, and if so what approach you took to cleaning/storing.

Of course normally with deer out in the field it’s not practical to faff about with intestines unduly, but I will be slaughtering some hoggets later in the year and would like to make use of as much as possible. Additionally we have deer on the ground at our new place with a few hundred metres of the house, I might even get the opportunity to have a go with deer (fallow). Anyone ever tried this? Inadvisable for any reason?
 
I have done it with both sheep and pigs.
There is a knack to it, and I can give you some tips to make it easier, if you're interested?
If you could that would be great! Just like to work out the feasibility first then I might give it a try
 
Thank you, that’s a nice concise explanation! I have searched for your book online on and off, but can never seem to find a copy
It's out of print at the moment (long story), but I noticed that there are a couple of 2nd hand copies on ebay at the moment.
