Truck rear work lights

Hi all,
I want to add some rear work lights to my pick up which has a standard leisure type fibreglass canopy.

If they’re mounted to the top the rearward light is obscured with the top half of the tailgate open.

I had wondered about putting one on the inside of the top tailgate that, when open, shines backwards/downwards.

Where have you all mounted yours?

Thanks

Top inside corners, with a bit of a bracket they could tuck back out the way but the top corners are rarely in the way.
These small hid lamps chuck a lot of light.

Couple of small LED motorbike lights on a bracket work well. I just used the canopy fixings that were there, with the wire gorilla taped round the window to the hinge and back to the tub to a switch.

Worthwhile mod. 👍

That's really neat 👍

I'm planning to fit a couple of LED units to the rear of my D2 for the coming winter.

First one will be to aid reversing & I'm planning on mounting it to the top of the (suitably reinforced inside) rear door handle housing, switching will be via a latching relay on a dash switch - relay harvested from a Defender rear fog light circuit & momentary switch from D2 fog light switch, mounted in a housing from a D1. Will only be able to switch it on when the reverse lights are already on.

Second one will be fitted using the captive nuts for the drop down headrests for the 3rd row seating & will be switched from a momentary switch in the boot & another latching relay that will only provide power when the rear door is open & courtesy light already on.

Well that's the plan anyway - have had the lights, switches & relays for a year or so, just need to find the time to sort it all out 🤣

I’m following this thread with interest as I’ve long planned to fit some supplementary reversing lights to my 2019 Ranger Wild track

As a bit of an aside, I needed extra light for reversing into the drive at home. Thought about fitting an extra light but tried these first.

Fitted them to my D2 and they were enough for what I needed. Bought a second set for my wife’s Vitara and in the Suzuki light cluster they’re absolutely brilliant.

For cars with simple clear lenses over their reversing lights it’s the same as shining 2 18650 led torches behind you.

Caveat is they may cause issues to the clever electrics on more modern cars.

Totally agree - used similar in my Ranger and they are very very bright. Believe you need Canbus versions to trick the ECU.

Well worth trying before adding extra lights.

These look superb.

Did they come with a plug, or did you have to wire them in?
Just 2 wires but mounting them to the inside of the rear I was able to pick up on several 12V supplies underneath for the rear wiper, etc. The lights are about 10mm thick and have an integral on/off switch. Quite simply, they a BRILLIANT 🤭

I bought a pair of rechargeable LED clip-on work lights (Luceco? Summat like that. They'rebright green anyway) from Screwfix or Toolstation, can't recall which.

Super bright. Hold charge for ages. No wiring. Can put them on tailgate, door, floor... what's not to like?

I use the unilite equivalents ..
Would be good to have them mounted high though sometimes..

I have the 1000w led one with a base and handle, the fallow the other night was 300 yds back to the truck so took the cart couple of knives, head and greens in the field and as you say what is not to like, on a suspended gralloch I hang it over one leg which gives a great amount of light. £20.00!!

If I open tailgate and clip them on, they're quite high, or can clip them to roofrails.
Mines are magnetic base ones.. just nothing magnetic to put them on haha
I might put abit of unistrut across canopy bars to use 🤔 altho my super duper headtorch usually does most of the work anyways
