The basic annual salary for an MP from 1 April 2024 is £91,346, plus expenses.

(CSA quote) "MPs also have to declare certain interests. The purpose is to provide information on any financial or non-financial benefit received by a MP which might reasonably be thought by others to influence their actions, speeches or votes in Parliament or influence their actions taken in their capacity as a Member."

Out of curiosity I checked up on Farage, but look up any MP who takes your fancy . . . ;)

As of now, Nigel Farage is the highest-earning MP, having made almost £1.2m a year from GB News.

In the first public Register of Interests of the new parliament, the Reform UK MP declared that he was earning £97,900 a month as a presenter for GB News, the channel co-owned by the hedge fund billionaire Paul Marshall.

Farage also revealed that his visit to the US on 17 July – in the aftermath of the assassination attempt on Donald Trump – cost £32,000 and was funded by Christopher Harborne, a Thailand-based crypto investor who previously gave millions to the Brexit party. The purpose was recorded as “to support a friend who was almost killed and to represent Clacton on the world stage”.

The MP’s social media earnings were also revealed, showing that he made £1,550 through X and £853 through Meta, as well as £4,000 from Cameo videos. The Clacton MP is also paid £4,000 a month by the Daily Telegraph.

Previously the highest-earning MP was Geoffrey Cox, the Tory MP, who also works as a barrister. He earns £293,400 from law firm Withers, and also collected a payment of £379,000 from an Indian chambers in July for work carried out in 2016 to 2018.

Of course, Farage has only just become an MP. Good for him earning a crust in the private sector. Most Labour MPs have never done a real job.

The real scandal is Sir Kneelalot who, as a senior civil servant in 2013, got a special tax-efficient pension arrangement just for him, which means he evades the pension pot limit. All paid for by us, of course. Sir Keir Starmer criticised over tax free pension scheme

It’s interesting looking at who is making payments to the likes of Yvette Cooper, Rayner, Streeting, Lammy, etc.

Names that keep cropping up as having made significant contributions include Gary Lubner, Peter Hearn, Labour for the Long Term, etc.

Politicians are all the same, regardless of party, in that they quite happily take shady money from those with vested interests.

Of course, they will all be paying their fair share of income tax on all their earnings, and not diverting it through offshore companies or other schemes. Right.....

Doesn't matter if they do. UK income tax is payable on worldwide income.

look what others MPs have got paid once they are no longer an MP walking into top jobs at banks and social media companies and after dinner speeches etc etc.
Yes indeed, wholeheartedly agree. In fact on that salary plus perks I think MPs should be full-time.
All of this is on Labour's long list of 'things to do'. . . some of it may worry Nigel Farage who's not into the heavy lifting of constituency work. :)

"Labour will restore confidence in government and ensure ministers are held to the highest standards.

We will establish a new independent Ethics and Integrity Commission, with its own independent Chair, to ensure probity in government.

Labour will review and update postgovernment employment rules to end flagrant abuses seen under the Conservatives.
  • This includes enforcing restrictions on ministers lobbying for the companies they used to regulate, with meaningful sanctions for breaching the rules.
  • We will give the Independent Adviser on Ministerial Interests the powers to start investigations into misconduct and ensure they have access to the evidence they need.
Labour will establish a new Modernisation Committee tasked with reforming House of Commons procedures, driving up standards, and improving working practices.
  • The absence of rules on second jobs also means some constituents end up with MPs who spend more time on their second job, or lobbying for outside interests, than on representing them.
  • Therefore, as an initial step, Labour will support an immediate ban on MPs from taking up paid advisory or consultancy roles.
  • We will task the Modernisation Committee to take forward urgent work on the restrictions that need to be put in place to prevent MPs from taking up roles that stop them serving their constituents and the country."
