A couple of renewal questions

Hi Everyone
I’m just about to start working through my first renewal of my FAC which was issued by Thames and I was looking for a bit of feedback on the following points:

Which online medical company would you recommend as I find it very difficult to get in to my local doctors during their opening times to request a medical certificate.

Secondly, does Thames typically issues an open certificate on the first renewal or does this need to be specifically requested?

Any feedback would be very much appreciated.

Can’t you post Drs form @ there door , pay over phone then collect when ready. Sorry to seem to state the obvious.
I probably could but if I can go online and make a single request and pay with someone like medicert I would just rather do that. I know there are multiple companies offering this type of service now and just want to find one that other members have had a good experience with.

Have you asked your GP if they will do the form? - if they will then get them to do it as it'll probably be quicker than them sending your information to the 3rd party company who then have to read it through, complete the form and then send it to you. Why introduce an additional delay in the process if you don't need to? My GP turned the form around within 2 days once I'd paid the fee.

If you use a service rather than your doctors, then effectively you add another layer of bureaucracy. The service have to contact your doctor and request your medical notes from the year dot. Then they have to do the necessary and post it out. It takes time. If your doctors are amenable to doing it, then it'll be easier to use them. You don't have to take the form in yourself. Your wife/girlfriend/partner/son/daughter etc just needs to drop it off. Although remember they'll likely want payment then.

....As for getting an open certificate, most areas do open it up on first renewal. But to be sure, when you get your FEO visit, mention it to them to put your mind at rest.

I think I’ll try and get someone to drop it in to the surgery and collect it for me. They have done it before when I applied for my initial grant, I’m just looking at all options to simplify logistics.

My Dr's wouldn't play ball either.I highly recommend ShootCert, quick and easy. However their probably the most expensive @ £90.

I’d say you’re very lucky and fortunate.. I just took a walk to my GP Surgery having dropped my form off and paid the £50 fee on the 19th.. The form is with the doctor to sign, but was told today, it could take up to 30 days😳

First renewal i doubt the Doctor will do it without you there in-front of them . I cannot remember actually having ever had a face to face with my doctors for renewals other than the first and the doctor just wanted to be sure i had a dog because he said " you should never go shooting without a dog " LOL i have held one for a long while my first grant was in the 80s ( my daughter has due to her medical info ) It wasn't much fuss i wasnt allowed into the interview of course .
