Hi there,

I’ve booked my first ever morning of stalking in the borders on Sat 14th. I am going out with @Heppy123 who I know some others here have had very successful days out with!

I live in a flat with no garden or outdoors space, and I have no experience preparing deer carcasses.

I am looking for someone in the Borders who would be able to help me butcher any carcass I get (if I get any at all) on Saturday. Ideally it would be someone who has a suitable space and skillset - who wouldn’t mind teaching me a bit during the process.

In return I would be happy to pay for your time/skills.

Please reach out if you know anyone in the area who knows what they are doing and could help out.

Thanks all!

I hope you find someone to give you a hand, but if not, don't be put off attempting it yourself. A roe is only a small animal. Easy enough to do in a flat. Hang it in a doorway to skin it, then butcher on a table. No sawing or chopping required - you can do the whole thing with one sharp knife.
Watch some of Scott Rea's videos on YouTube.
Drop me a pm if you want any butchering advice.

This. Did my first home butcher a couple of weeks ago. Once you've got the skin off, it's just like any other bit of meat in your kitchen.

Mine was also a Roe, and certainly a lot smaller than the Fallow I field butchered a few months back.

I had a YouTube video up, but found it a faff so turned it off and just went my own route with common sense and a sharp knife.

Yes, it may not have been the most economical of butchered animals, but it's done and I've got a freezer full of venison pies now.

@Zauber - Definitely watch some of Scott Rea's videos such as:
"How To Butcher A Deer. A Roe Deer. TheScottReaProject"

He has a number of videos on different approaches to butchering Roe, as well as skinning them.

Definitely give it a go if you can find some space. YouTube is all you need.

Ideally get it skinned off before leaving your stalking ground, take something decent to wrap it in as every last thing will want to stick to the carcass.

Once home you can quickly break it down into manageable bits that can be butchered on you kitchen counter etc.

Hope you find someone to help you out but don’t be intimidated. It’s really not hard. In the end it’s just meat that you can cut and cook however you want.

I will help you if you want , I'm about 10 miles from where you will be shooting

Hi everyone, I've had a few offers of help from some very generous members of the community. Thank you very much, I appreciate it!
I think I'm sorted now - I've got an offer from someone very close to where I'll be shooting - which logistically is ideal.
Thanks again everyone!
