.243 load data

Hi all

Going to make home loads for my .243 and wanted a starting point from anyone who has done some load development.

If possible I’d love to use N160 as I use it already, and saves me having to get another powder.

Rifle is mainly used for pest shooting, from birds, rabbits and foxes. Also (but not *that* often) deer in the season.

Thanks in advance for any starting points!

Will watch this thread with interest as I have just started to load for my .243
I've knocked up two batches to try

75g Vmax
N160
Lapua brass
Magtech primer

Two weights to try out
41.5g and 44g

N160 & 75gr Vmax for me, accurate and effective on both Roe & fox.
Destructive on Fox but not Roe...leaves a reasonable exit hole.
Crimping may possibly help hold the core together more on the Roe.

I suggest that N160 with any projectile under 85gr is too slow, especially if you've got a 20" barrel. N150 would be better for the 70-80gr bullets

46gn n160 - 70 gn nosler BT
43.5gn n160 - 87 gn vmax

they have worked for me in numerous .243's, custom and factory. work up to prove safe load obviously. make to fit mag or SAAMI spec COAL.

Anyone used Ramshot powder in .243? Looking at it on the reloading program and 65gr vmax. Ramshot tac at 42grain is looking pretty good.
