Another Boots thread….

Had a bad 12 months with boots, my Haix gave up last year so tried some meindl dovre extreme and love them. Then one of the eyelets pulled out, replacement pair turned up promptly and all went well until a month ago when the rand started to disintegrate. They went off for repair but thats an estimated 8 week turn around 🤦‍♂️. Bought some fancy treksta boots with a boa lace system… amazing boot and fit like slippers, 6 days later they started to fall apart. So I give up buying overpriced boots. Are there any boots out there that last? I would have thought that the £300 category would be a few years before they give up.

Sorry for the rant,

Adam

Meindl aren't what they used to be, my old pair still going strong have outlasted others newer pairs, I've got to the stage where I buy good makes second hand, if I get a year or even more its worth doing, had a great pair of Le Chameau off here recently

I bought a pair of army issue hiax for 50 quid. For the price there unbeatable. Wear them a couple of times a week out foxing and beating during the season. Will definitely look at the newer ex army ones think iturri? Think they are Italian. A mate really rates grisport, there a good boot without the premium.

I agree on the haix, but the issued boots are all over the place size wise, dont seem to have anywhere local to try before you buy these days. Wouldn’t be a bad idea to search for some surplus Lowa or Haix cww though

wonder if anchor supplies in Notts do them? There was an army surplus place in Grantham opposite Halfords. Both might be long gone, worth a google.

I have a friend who's a shepherd, he wears grisport and thinks they're great, and he's out in the worst weather north Northumberland has to offer

Yes iturri cold wet weather are great boots - also made in the same spec by Karrimor SF (not the same as Karrimor). Both are great. Hard wearing comfortable and good value.

What on earth are you doing to your boots?

A £500 custom knife will give you decades of service with appropriate use and careful maintenance; use it to hammer nails and jemmy open doors, then leave it wet and bloody to rust, and you’ll ruin it in days.

I've been wearing Altberg boots for a few years now for work, motorcycling and now shooting they are really comfortable and lightweight, if you go to the factory in Richmond you can get them made to measure and they do different widths.
