Wanted: Sako 75 Firing Pin Part

After my slightly ranty post about CCI BR4s I think I’ve found the problem I was having with getting them to fire - there’s a bit missing from my Sako’s bolt.

I have no idea what it’s called, but it’s the tubular piece of alloy that sits between the firing pin spring and bolt shroud.

I only noticed as I stripped one of my other Sako bolts and noticed it was different, so then did the other 2!

The piece that’s missing is the one second from top in the below photo. I think I can buy an entirely new firing pin assembly from GMK but I’m expecting a stupid price and ridiculous wait time, so thought I’d see if there’s one going about.

I found mine was missing too. I wasn't having and issue that I found but only noticed it when I stripped the bolt and compared to another sako 75. As I had a pattern, my mate turned me another one. I'll dig it the measurements if you like but you already had a pattern to copy if you can find someone to turn you a new one....and a spare

Thanks, I’ve just been looking into things after some misfires. Seem to have been made worse by the BR4s being thicker than normal and I’m guessing this missing means there’s less tension.

It's called a firing pin guide, and is not found on the 75's with the key lock shroud, only on those without. I'm not sure if it's the same as the 85, I don't have an 85.

I don’t think it’s confined to the key lock-less bolts though. The top and bottom springs in my photo are from bolts with ‘standard’ shrouds but the second from bottom is from one with the keylock shroud. It looks like there’s a difference in the design but both have them.

I have the bolt lock on my 75 and also this part so it much come with some of the bolt lockable actions.

Sorry about that, I just looked at the firing pin on my 75 and at the key lock one it replaced.

Have them in stock but they come as part of a full firing pin kit

Far better have someone knock one up a mini lathe out of aluminium stock

How could that part be lost surely if it’s held in and part of the firing pin it’s nearly impossible to loose , was it second hand when you bought it . Just curious that’s all because I’ve got a 75 and only ever had bother when trying to fire copper through it and it blew the extractor from the bolt . Cheers

I can only speak for the 7 that I’ve owned and they all have had them.

My first 75 didn’t, and my 2nd didn’t, both purchased new. But I’ve seen plenty that did have them. Not sure why, I think it was perhaps something to do with the bolt shroud and the locking mechanism or when they were introduced

Maybe worth an email to the manufacturer just for Shiites and giggles

It was second hand, so could have been lost previously. I don’t think I lost it but who knows!

Having noticed it, the spring tension does seem less than my other three, re-fitting the shroud is certainly easier.

I borrowed the piece from my 243 yesterday and had no issues with primers not igniting, so I do think that’s the problem.

Edit - the spring in all four is also the same length so, unless it’s a ‘tougher’ spring, it would make sense that the tension is reduced by it not being there. It’s only been the BR4 primers that are an issue, but they’re 25% thicker than standard so that would make sense.
